Samsung and Nestlé Join Hands To Make 2017 A Healthier Year

Samsung’s Strategy and Innovation Center has teamed with Nestlé’s Institute of Health Sciences to develop a digital health platform that would give consumers data and advice on nutrition and fitness to improve their health. The partnership hopes to mix IoT, scientifically validated bio sensors, advanced multi-modal technology, and comprehensive nutritional approach to give consumers digital tools to help manage their health by providing useful recommendations on nutrition, lifestyle and fitness, the companies said.

Samsung and Nestlé provided little detail in announcing the collaboration, but promised to release more information when they begin pilot programs on the platform early next year. Samsung’s ARTIK IoT platform will be part of the new platform.

“Today, we live in an era of smarter living brought about by the convergence of technology and life science,”  Young Sohn, Samsung’s president and chief strategy officer, said in a statement. “It’s an era where the data from smart sensors and devices in our daily life such as mobile phones, wearables, and smart refrigerators can help us to understand our nutrition and activity and to guide us towards a healthier lifestyle.”

Earlier this year, Medidata , which provides cloud-based solutions

for clinical research in life sciences, said it was supporting a clinical trial being conducted by Nestlé. The two-year study, which is being done in China, is looking at the impact of nutrition combined with physical activity on mobility in healthy aging adults with joint discomfort.

The relationship extends beyond what millions of consumers already enjoy and experience with the global brands of Nestlé and Samsung. What makes this collaboration meaningful is that it combines digital and comprehensive nutritional sciences in a way that has great potential for worldwide reach. This relationship is underpinned by extensive research, the innovative, visionary people inside Samsung and Nestlé, and the recognition of this collaboration synergy. More details about the platform are expected when the first pilots begin in early 2017.
