To get admission into  Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) courses in reputed medical as well as dental colleges of India, cracking the NEET exam with a good score is a must. Due to the covid pandemic situation, the NEET 2021 exam was conducted in the month of September by National Testing Agency (NTA). Important Topics For NEET Biology 2022 Exam

Biology is one of the most scoring subjects of NEET. It comprises two sections Botany and Zoology. A total of 45 questions are asked from each section (that is 90 questions from the Biology section) carrying 180 marks, so overall 360 marks are allotted for only this section. In order to prepare for NEET well, it is essential for every candidate to be thorough with the syllabus of the exam. NEET biology for and XIth and XIIth comprises of following units/chapters:

Once you are aware of the syllabus, it is essential to go through important topics from each unit/chapter thoroughly. You can definitely expect the question from these chapters/topics.  Some of the must-study topics from NEET biology are mentioned below. 

NEET Botany 

Plant Kingdom: It is an important chapter from the unit Diversity in the living world. Usually, questions asked on this topic are about different types of algae and the general characteristics of pteridophytes & gymnosperms. The number of questions anticipated from this chapter is 5 on the basis of the previous year’s question paper analysis.

Plant Physiology: Another important unit that covers some important topics like  C3 & C4 cycle, Kranz Anatomy, Glycolysis & Krebs cycle, ETS complexes, Photoperiodism, Transport in plants. Around 8 questions are anticipated from this chapter.

NEET ZOOLOGY

Human Physiology: It is one of the most important units from class XIth and includes some major human physiological processes like the digestive system, excretory system, nervous system, body fluids & circulation, breathing & exchange of gases, and chemical coordination, and integration. The expected number of questions from this unit is 10-13.

Genetics & Evolution: From this unit, the most important topics that need to be covered are dihybrid cross, linkage, genetic disorders, codominance, and pedigree analysis from chapter “Principle of Inheritance and Variation”. From the evolution unit, the most important topics covered are Darwin, Natural Selection, and human evolution. Average 5-6 questions are expected from genetics and 1-2 from evolution.

 Ecology and Environment: Must study topics from this unit are environmental issues, biogeochemical cycles, ecological pyramids, population interactions, adaptations, and succession. Around 2-3 questions are anticipated from this topic. 

Biology & Human welfare: One needs to focus on topics like AIDS, its causative agent, symptom, and treatment. Similarly, cancer, its causes as well as treatment are important. Immunity and its types, antibodies, autoimmunity, and drugs are also some of the important topics in this unit with the expected number of questions being 1-2. 

Human Reproduction: Male & Female reproductive systems; gametogenesis (spermatogenesis & oogenesis), and menstrual cycle are some of the important topics in animal reproduction. The average number of questions usually asked in this chapter is 5-6.

Now, knowing about important topics is not enough, one needs to understand how one can prepare for these essential topics of NEET Biology. Usually, students find the Biology section easiest in comparison to Physics and Chemistry as around 80-85% of questions are directly picked from NCERT. So, to prepare for the Biology section the best book to refer to is NCERT.  While studying at NCERT, make sure you follow the order of chapters as given in the NCERT textbook. Go through basic concepts and terms first, understand plant kingdom and subclasses, learn by comparing and understanding the difference between Angiosperms & Gymnosperms, Light reaction and Dark reaction, Mitosis, and Meiosis. Focus on topics like cell organelles with their function. Once you are thorough with the above topics, you can then start off with a chapter on plant physiology. Make use of flow charts for learning the mechanisms of digestion and respiration. excretion etc. Learn all the diagrams/ images given in the NCERT textbook.

The chemistry syllabus for NEET 2022 is divided into three sections Physical chemistry, Organic chemistry, and Inorganic chemistry. A total of 45 questions carrying 180 marks are asked in the question papers. To study all three sections requires a systematic approach for which the knowledge of important chapters/ topics is a must.

For NEET 2022, the important topics are mentioned below which should be given priority while studying chemistry. 

Physical Chemistry 

• Some basic fundamentals of Chemistry: Mole concept and molar masses, Stoichiometry, and calculations. The number of questions anticipated from this topic can be 2.
• Structure of Atom:  Topics like Atom’s quantum mechanical model and the Hydrogen atom’s Bohr model should be given priority. Usually, about 1-2 questions are anticipated.
• Equilibrium: Ionization of acids and bases, solubility, and equilibrium of sparingly soluble salts should be given priority. The expected number of questions is usually 2-3.
• Solutions & Colligative Properties: Learn about both Ideal & non-ideal solutions and colligative properties. The average number of questions usually asked is 2.

Organic Chemistry

A total of 45 questions in the question papers are asked from physics, carrying 180 marks. In comparison to chemistry and Biology, students often have difficulty in appearing in this section. To score well in NEET physics, understand the concepts well and learn all the formulas. Also, one needs to be through with the syllabus of NEET Physics as mentioned below:

While preparing for physics, every candidate must cover the following important topics:

Mechanics: One of the most important units with the highest weightage. The highest number of questions have been asked for this unit in almost all the years. Going by trends, we can expect 13-16 questions this year too. The most important concepts to be covered in Mechanics are gravity, dimensional and error analysis, Kepler’s law, conservation of momentum, collisions and energy, laws of motion, Pascal’s law, mechanics of common forces, Reynolds’ number and viscosity, Bernoulli’s principle, beats and standing waves, longitudinal and transverse waves, Doppler effect, superposition, reflection, spring potential energy, Satellites, and Projectile as well as circular motion. Kinematics is a must-study topic that includes the estimation of the maximum height, time of flight, range, and velocity-based problems, important from the exam point of view.  

Electrostatics and Magnetism: Numericals are majorly asked in the examination from these units. Don’t miss the topics such as Electrostatic potential as well as work done, motion in electric as well as magnetic fields, Torque on a current loop, potential energy in external fields, magnetic dipoles, and cyclotrons. We can expect 10 questions from these units.

Heat and Thermodynamics: Every year around 2-3 questions on average are usually asked from here. The topics that one cannot miss studying at all are heat transfer, heat engines, heat pumps,  refrigerators, principles of various laws of thermodynamics (Zeroth law, Joule’s Law, First law, second law), Newton’s Law of Cooling, specific heat capacity, mean free path, the law of equipartition of energy, calorimetry, transfer of thermal expansion. Also, practice model test papers on Carnot engine-Efficiency and Coefficient of Performance.

Modern Physics: One of the most scorable topics, start preparing for it by focussing on topics like  X-rays, Dual nature of matter, Radioactive Decay of Substances, Nuclear Fission as well as  Fusion, Bohr’s Model.  The number of questions expected is 7-8 from this unit.  

Electronic devices: One can expect a decent number of questions from this unit, with 5 questions expected this year coming up too. The topics that one needs to focus on are Semiconductors and electronic waves, Special purpose p-n junction diodes (Photodiode, solar cell, LED, Zener diode); transistor (action and characteristics); the basic idea of digital and analog signals, Logic gates (AND, OR, AND, NAND, NOT & NOR).

NEET Physics preparation could be difficult or time taking for some of the candidates as the subject involves mathematical terms, formulas, and lengthy calculations. Note the formulas separately in a notebook or write them on a sheet and paste them in your room so that you can repeatedly see them and revise them frequently. Make sure to go through each and every question and solution given in NCERT thoroughly and revise and practice them frequently. Unlike other subjects, Physics needs a lot of practice. NCERT is the best book to be referred to as most questions are asked directly from here. However, apart from the NCERT textbook, other books like Concepts of Physics by H.C Verma, Problems in General Physics book by I.E. Irodov, or D.C. Pandey Objective Physics can also be referred to.
