PhD Admissions 2016
The Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) is an institution of education, training and research setup by the Govt. of India through the Dept. of Biotechnology, under the auspices of UNESCO as a Category 2 Centre(C2C). RCB provides a modern environment for research, education and training in biology and biotechnology.
Applications are invited from students for admission to the PhD Programme starting in July 2016 (Academic Year 2016-17) in the broad areas listed below:
- Cell and Molecular Biology
- Biophysics, Biochemistry, and Structural Biology
- Host-Pathogen Interactions in Plants and Animals
- Development and Genetics
- Chemical Biology and Nanotechnology
- Human Disease Biology
- Infection, Inflammation and Cancer
Eligibility Criteria:
- Qualifications: MSc from any branch of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics)/ MPharm/MTech/MVSc or any equivalent qualification.
- Qualifying Marks: 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Bachelor’s and Masters’ level (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC as allowed by GOI norms)
- Reservations of seats: As per Govt. of India guidelines
- In addition to the above, candidates should have qualified/ scores available from any of the following examinations at the time of interview.
- Joint CSIR-UGC Test for Junior Research Fellowship (CSIR/UGC JRF)
- Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST – INSPIRE)
- DBT Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF)
- ICMR Junior Research Fellowship (ICMR-JRF)
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2016 in Life Sciences)
- Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS)- held in December, 2015.
Candidates will be short-listed based on their scores/ranks in the above examinations for interview which will held from 15th to 17th June, 2016.
Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree examination (final year/final semester) and whose result is still awaited may also apply and if shortlisted also appear for the interview. However, final admission is pursuant to satisfactory fulfillment of the above criteria/requirements at the time of joining.
Fellowship:
The fellowship is initially tenable for duration of three years, and is extendable for two additional years after Annual Review by the Academic Committee.

- SC, ST and PwD candidates are exempted from payment of the application fee.
