Centre for Environment Education (CEE) was established in August 1984 as a Centre of Excellence supported by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. CEE, a national institution with its headquarters in Ahmedabad, has a mandate to promote environmental awareness nationwide. CEE is affiliated to the Nehru Foundation for Development and inherits the rich multi- disciplinary resource base and varied experience of Nehru Foundation for Development.
Programme Officers
Programme Officers (POs) form the foundation of Programme Teams at the Centre. A programme officer at CEE is like the executive officer, responsible for carrying out the day to day execution of projects and activities and working closely with stakeholder groups. With Education and Communication as the key focus, projects and programmes at CEE range from field demonstrations, to community engagement programmes, programmes for industries, policy makers, media, schools to programmes that have training and material development as core activities. POs at CEE are guided and advised by Programme Coordinator/Programme Director; and also work closely with the administrative and accounts support teams.

Programme Officer shall be responsible for the Overall coordination of the Kannur office activities that include
- Planning the state strategy for next 5 years
- Identifying resources including funds for the ESD activities
- Building the team
- Project management
- Strengthening the Centres existing programmes such as sustainability and global citizenship education in formal school systems, capacity building teachers and implementing CEE’s national and international school based programmes across Kerala; Developing and demonstrating community based sustainability education projects that enhance local capacities for sustainable utilization and conservation of natural resources; adapting existing CEE education materials to the and develop new public outreach educational materials, particularly in the local languages and relevant to the local contexts.
- Identifying and developing State specific ESD programmes including coastal and marine theme.
- To be a strategic knowledge and facilitation partner with local district and state government, NGOs, CBOs for supporting their existing programmes/projects for achieving sustainable development goals in the region.
