About the Job
Job Accountabilities:
- Generate scientific/technical data using established systems, procedures, and protocols.
- Develop new systems, methods, and tools.
- Provide instructions and guidance to others to complete assigned tasks.
- Perform part of a key activity using routine activities within a specified work program, varying the approach as the work output varies.
- Work independently according to a plan agreed upon with a supervisor, using known and novel procedures.
- Apply knowledge and experience to recognize problems and work with the supervisor to find solutions; report any backlogs and likely timescales.
- Use basic, established, local methods and techniques to find information for advising or discussing with a supervisor.
- Comply with HSE requirements and suggest improvements in own work area.
- Provide advice/guidance on practical or technical issues to less experienced staff.
- Report to a manager on progress and completion of an activity on an agreed basis (possibly daily).
- Settle straightforward/minor problems or complaints within agreed limits.
- Review the priorities of outstanding tasks for self and others and amend as necessary.
- Exchange information with internal and external contacts and judge when to pass on to others.
Skills Required (Knowledge and Skills):
Knowledge:
- Vector designing, promoter strength assay, DNA delivery methods in algae and cyanobacteria.
- Bioinformatics tools required for molecular biology and advanced genome editing using ZFN, TALEN, CRISPR.
- Development and high-throughput screening of recombinant algae, enzyme, and metabolite assay.
- Culture techniques for photosynthetic microorganisms, solid media purification.
- Understanding of algae physiology and growth studies in photobioreactors.
Skills:
- Bacterial and yeast genetics, algae culture in photobioreactors.
- Modification and transformation of algae.
Key Attributes (Experience and Qualifications):
- MTech, Ph.D., or M.Sc. in chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology.
- 2 – 3 years of work experience in reputed research institutes or R&D organizations.
- Experience growing algae and cyanobacteria in photobioreactors, bacterial, fungi, and yeast genetics.
- Experience in molecular techniques associated with DNA, RNA, protein, and transformation protocols of large molecular weight DNA.
