Finally, Cancer Researchers are able to find Cure for Cancer.

Yes, you heard it right!

Aiming to look for a potential cure for cancer,  Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York performed a small clinical trial study on cancer patients. A total of 18 rectal cancer patients were included in the study who were in similar stages of their cancer.  According to doctors, cancer in these patients was locally advanced in the rectum but had not spread to other organs. These patients were given a drug known as Dostarlimab. Dostarlimab is a drug that contains a molecule produced in the laboratory which has the potential to act as substitutive antibodies in the body of humans. 

The patients in this trial were given this drug every three weeks for about a period of six months. When patients were examined at the end, it was observed that the tumour had disappeared. According to the experts, the cancer was indistinguishable by techniques such as Endoscopy, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI scans), or physical examination. Thus drug Dostarlimab

proves to be a potential cure for the deadly disease of cancer.  

Although several clinical trials had been conducted on patients earlier as well where they were subjected to treatment such as radiation, chemotherapy as well as invasive surgery, these treatments resulted in sexual, urinary, and bowel dysfunction.  However, in this clinical trial, no significant complications associated with this drug trial have been reported as stated by experts. Also, no treatment for the patients is required further. Such a finding was quite shocking for the experts as complete remittal in each patient involved in the study is never heard before.

According to Dr. Luis A. Diaz J. of New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center,  such findings have happened for the “first time in cancer history”. Colorectal cancer specialist, Dr. Alan P. Venook, at the University of having lauded this research to be “world-first” as in this trial complete remission occurred in every single patient which is  “ never happened before”.  It was a very joyful moment for all the 18 cancer patients when they came to know they are cancer-free as reported by oncologist  Dr. Andrea Cercek.

To this day, not a single patient included in this trial had undergone any surgery for cancer or chemotherapy. Also, during follow-ups, there are no cases of cancer recurrence as well as progression reported.

Cancer researchers have reviewed the Dostarlimab drug and have suggested that although drug treatment looks promising, a larger-scale trial is required.
