A website providing detailed information on the various COVID-19 clinical trials that CSIR (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research) is engaged in a collaboration with government departments, ministries, and the industry was launched by the Minister of Science & Technology, Health and Family Welfare and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan.

The website is named as CuRED (CSIR Ushered Repurposed Drugs), has all the data regarding the diagnostics, drugs, devices, the present stage of the trials, collaborating organizations, along with other related information at the site http://db.iiim.res.in/ct/index.php or https://www.iiim.res.in/cured/.

The Minister highly praised CSIR’s efforts for remaining at the front line of the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic and for aiding in the launch of drugs and diagnostics in the market, for prioritizing clinical trials and producing data for their regulatory approval. Additionally, he also praised for developing COVID-19 drugs through novel processes and transferring them to the Industry and for the approach of using repurposed drugs.

For the potential treatment of COVID-19, CSIR is investigating the clinical trials of many combinations of anti-virals with host-directed therapies. Additionally, CSIR is conducting clinical trials of AYUSH drugs in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH and the trials of individual plant-based compounds/in combination AYUSH prophylactics and treatments have undertaken its efficacy and safety trials. Currently, there are five clinical trials undergoing safety and efficacy trials of WithaniasomniferaTinosporacordifolia plus Piper longum(in combination), GlycyrrhizaglabraTinosporacordifolia & Adhatodavasica (individually and in combination), and AYUSH-64 formulation.

CSIR and Cadila’s clinical trial Sepsivac (Mw) against coronavirus is an important ongoing trial. An extensive Phase III trial is about to begin after the successful completion of the Phase II clinical trial on severely ill COVID-19 patients. Additionally, CSIR and Sun Pharma and DBT’s Phase II trial of phytopharmaceutical AQCH on COVID-19 patients is in progress.

CSIR has also been engaged in clinical trials of diagnostics and devices along with clinical trials of vaccines and repurposed drugs.

During the event of the website’s launch, Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and Director General of CSIR, Dr. Shekhar C Mande; Director of CSIR-NISTADS, Dr. Ranjana Aggarwal, and Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR, Dr. Geetha Vani Rayasam, attended the event. Others, including Scientists involved in clinical trials, CSIR Heads of Departments, and CSIR Directors virtually joined the event of the website launch.
