USAID Announces $3 Million To Support India Combat COVID-19

 The United States government, with its aid agency USAID (US Agency for International Development), has announced an additional grant of $3 million to help India fight COVID-19. To minimize the viral spread, USAID had announced a grant of $2.9 million to India on 6th April 2020.

Kenneth Juster, United States Ambassador to India stated that the added funding will support India’s response to this pandemic.

A release issued by the US Embassy in India quoted the envoy as saying, “This additional funding of $3 Million from USAID to support India in its continuing initiatives to deal with COVID-19 is an example of the strong and enduring partnership between the India and US”.

USAID is one of the independent leading aid agencies around the world.

The release said USAID is offering these funds to an innovative financing platform – the Partnerships for Affordable Healthcare Access and Longevity (PAHAL) project.

USAID has funded $5.9 million to help India for fighting COVID-19 outbreak to date. 

The release said this will help India to slow down COVID-19 spread, circulate necessary public health messages to communities, reinforce case finding and surveillance and provide care of the

patients.

Additionally, “USAID will support the National Health Authority through the PAHAL project to establish a financing center that can set in mobilize resources to aid over 20,000 health facilities from the private sector. The health facilities should be enrolled under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) – Health insurance system for 500 million poor as well as vulnerable individuals of India”, as per the release.
