Coronavirus cases in the US more than China

The United States now has the most confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally at around 85,991 cases.

According to tracking numbers from Johns Hopkins University, with more than 85,000 people infected, the US has topped China in coronavirus cases. The coronavirus cases in China are at 81,782 while it is around 80,500 in Italy.

In the US, the death toll of COVID-19 has been over 1,100 deaths. However, while comparing the death toll, other countries like Italy, Spain, Iran, France, and China are more affected as there have been around 1,700 fatalities in France, 2,200 in Iran, 3,300 in China,  4,100 in Spain, and the most deaths around 8,200 in Italy.

Donald Trump, the US President, during a White House coronavirus task force briefing said, “the jump in cases is a tribute to our testing, we are doing tremendous testing.”

As the number of COVID-19 cases in the US surpassed that of China’s, the president, in an effort to update guidance on social distancing, he spoke with the governors of all states and US territories about his idea to classify counties as either high, medium or low risk. During the White House coronavirus task

force briefing, he said, “Our country has to go back to work.”

To discuss how each country is dealing with the pandemic, Trump also spoke to G20 world leaders, including Australia, Saudi Arabia, India, Japan, China, Russia, Germany, and with organizations like the World Bank and the IMO, European Commission, the UN, and WHO.

Trump said that he will be speaking with Chinese President Xi Jinping and he argued that it’s uncertain what the numbers are in China.

As of March 27, there are around 533,416 coronavirus cases globally with deaths reaching more than 24,000.

The US Senate passes a $2 trillion stimulus package as the COVID-19 has now killed more than 1,000 Americans.
