SATHI- IIT Delhi and DST initiative for shared research infrastructure
Indian Institue of Technology Delhi (IIT-Delhi) has been chosen by the high-level committee constituted of Department of science and technology (DST) and Government of India to establish a shared science and technology infrastructure facility called Sophisticated Analytical and Technical Help Institue (SATHI) at the Sonepat campus, Haryana. The outstanding performance shown by IIT Delhi in the area of research and development, the proven track record in managerial capability and the infrastructure available landed them the project.
The primary objective of this initiative is to provide professionally managed services, all under one roof. It will be accessible for the scientific community from academia, startups, research, and development laboratories to manufacturing industries. It promises to meet all the industry standards.
SATHI will be equipped with major analytical instruments, advanced manufacturing tools which are generally not available in all organizations/ institutes.
As told by Prof B.R. Mehta, Dean, R&D, IIT Delhi, SATHI is more than a sophisticated equipment center. Not just the infrastructure but the faculty and researchers from IIT Delhi will help in assisting the students, scientists, and entrepreneurs in addressing the scientific and technological problems. He also added that IIT Delhi
has made a commitment towards SATHI to make available the other high-end research facilities for the project. He believes the initiative taken by the Government of India will be a game-changer for the research community. The institute is honored to take up the huge responsibility which will benefit the nation and Prof V Ramgopal Rao,Director IIT Delhi has promised to keep the facilities under this project available round the clock basis, with minimal downtime to benefit the community.To Set up SATHI, IIT Delhi will be provided 125 crores, mostly non-recurring grants in the next three financial years starting from 2019- 2020.
