Education:
- M.Sc/M.Tech in Life Sciences (Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related fields) with 8–12 years of research experience
- OR PhD with 3–5 years of relevant experience
Key Responsibilities for a Team Lead:
- Plan and execute biochemical characterization of proteins using MS and HOS techniques.
- Ascertain amino acid sequences, identify and quantify post-translational modifications (PTMs) such as glycosylation, oxidation, and deamidation.
- Determine intact and subunit mass, identify disulfide bond linkages, and investigate sequence variants.
- Analyze higher-order structures including secondary and tertiary levels, and apply HDX-MS technology (desirable).
- Process MS data using advanced software tools and generate technical reports.
- Ensure proper documentation in electronic laboratory notebooks following good documentation practices.
- Communicate data effectively to cross-functional teams and compile reports for internal discussions.
- Perform data trending, prepare method development reports, and author SOPs, protocols, and deviations.
- Conduct literature reviews, support experimental design, and troubleshoot analytical challenges.
- Coordinate with instrumentation teams for equipment maintenance, calibration, and installation.
- Manage laboratory inventory and ensure availability of consumables and critical reagents.
- Train junior scientists and maintain high standards of good laboratory practices (GLP).
Experience Requirements for a Team Lead:
- Hands-on experience in biopharmaceutical companies using high-resolution mass spectrometers (Q-TOF/Orbitrap).
- Expertise in intact mass deconvolution, peptide mapping (reduced and non-reduced), glycan analysis, and protein sequencing approaches.
- Experience in top-down, middle-down, and bottom-up protein analysis, and development of multi-attribute methods.
- Familiarity with MS software such as Proteome Discoverer, Byonic, Biopharma Finder, Protein Pilot, and PeakView.
- Strong background in chromatography and readiness to cross-train in complementary analytical techniques.
