Engagement to the position of PAT-I, PAT-II & Senior-PAT
CSIR – Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, a constituent National Laboratory of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), seeks to engage qualified candidates on a purely temporary contractual basis for the following project:
Project Title: “Bio-incubator for Food Processing and Biotechnology”
Location: CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru, Karnataka
Duration: Initially up to 31/03/2025, extendable to 11/10/2025 based on the requirement or till the project end date, whichever is earlier.

Job Descriptions/Responsibilities:
PAT-I:
- Maintenance and running of laboratory equipment
- Convey complex technical information effectively (written and verbal)
- Procuring and indenting lab consumables
- Managing stock and resources
- Supporting bioincubation mentoring activities and additional tasks as assigned by PI/Manager
PAT-II:
- Effective communication skills
- Procuring equipment and consumables
- Ensuring GLP compliance in the lab, supervising startups and other lab users
- Organizing training programs/workshops
- Supporting bioincubation mentoring activities and additional tasks as assigned by PI/Manager
Senior-PAT:
- Identifying and onboarding potential food startups
- Liaison between startups and the incubation center’s activities, engaging stakeholders
- Promoting training courses and skill development workshops
- Building relationships with startups, mentors, industry experts, associations, and government agencies
- Developing networks of entrepreneurs, mentors, investors, and industries
- Promoting incubated companies through marketing material development
Note:
As per CSIR OM No. 5-1(342)/2017-PD dated 02.09.2024, engagement of Project Staff is co-terminus with the project term. The total tenure of Project Staff across CSIR labs should not exceed 6 years. Applicants who have completed 6 years in any CSIR Lab as Project Staff are not eligible for these positions.
Terms and Conditions:
- Only candidates who have acquired the essential qualifications and whose results have been declared are eligible to apply. Candidates awaiting results or in their final semester are not eligible.
- Experience in a relevant discipline/area will be counted from the date of acquiring the minimum prescribed qualifications for the post.
- Shortlisting will be done by a designated committee based on current requirements, and the list of shortlisted candidates will be displayed on the CSIR-CFTRI website.
- No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.
- In case of a large number of applications, the selection committee may adopt one or more of the following shortlisting criteria:
- Percentage of marks obtained in the essential qualification.
- Higher educational qualifications than the minimum prescribed.
- Desirable qualifications/experience.
- Other methodologies as deemed fit by the Committee.
- Selection results, along with a panel of waitlisted candidates, will be declared based on interview performance and posted on the CFTRI website. Validity and engagement will follow CSIR rules as per OM No. 5-1(342)/2017-PD dated 02.09.2024.
- Age relaxation for SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates is 5 years, and for OBC candidates, it is 3 years.
- Engagement is temporary and co-terminus with the project tenure or a maximum of 6 years, whichever is earlier, without any right to regularization.
- Current CSIR/CSIR-CFTRI candidates need a “NOC” from their current PI. Engagement in this project requires a ‘No Dues Certificate’ and resignation from any prior project.
- Engagement duration is initially short, based on available funds and may be extended or curtailed based on conduct, performance, and project requirements.
- Engagement will not exceed the project tenure and will automatically expire at the project’s end date.
- Project personnel are not entitled to register for higher degrees or permanent positions within CSIR-CFTRI or CSIR Labs/Institutes.
- Maximum engagement as Project Staff in CSIR projects (including NMITLI projects, OLP/MLP, Contract R&D, and non-CSIR funded projects) is limited to 6 years across CSIR Labs.
- Candidates who have completed 6 years or more as Project Staff in CSIR Labs are ineligible for further engagement.
- The posts advertised are provisional, subject to fund availability in the respective project before result declaration and engagement issuance.
- Periodic performance reviews will be conducted. Unsatisfactory performance may lead to termination without notice.
- CSIR-CFTRI reserves the right to cancel or withdraw an engagement offer if any discrepancy is found in the candidature of an empaneled candidate.
- Candidates must ensure they meet the essential qualifications and experience.
- Providing incorrect or misleading information will be the candidate’s responsibility, and applications may be rejected at any stage for non-eligibility or misinformation.
- Other terms and conditions will follow guidelines issued by CSIR/funding agencies for the engagement of project staff.
- The Director, CSIR-CFTRI, reserves the right to amend, delete, add Terms & Conditions, or cancel the advertisement without explanation.
- The number of vacancies may vary at the time of selection.
- Canvassing or any influence, political or otherwise, will disqualify candidates.
