McDonald’s Food Poisoning – McDonald’s USA Deadly Outbreak
Deep-fried patty, cheese, buns, ketchup, lettuce etc reminds us of a Burger! Everyone loves them. Right?
But what if a disease causing bacteria also gets added up in the mix which contaminates the whole meal leading to serious diseases?
This nightmare was realized in a popular fast-food restaurant chain and it spread to 10 different states.
It’s jarring to think that leading fast-food chains though inherently not healthy will pose an immediate threat to life as well.
What are we talking about?
Unfortunately in the USA, as reported by the US CDC, there has been an outbreak linked to McDonald’s offering of a certain variety of hamburgers which has led to some devastating consequences.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US is investigating the fast-moving outbreak. They found out that burgers from McDonald’s are contaminated with Escherichia coli. According to reports, numerous people have fallen sick since September and one of them even died. Most of the infected ones have recalled consuming Quarter Pounder hamburgers from McDonald’s
The epidemic has spread among 10 states of the United States of America. The states Colorado and Nebraska have reported the most of the casualties till now.
Almost 10 people are hospitalized currently and one child among them developed hemolytic uremic syndrome causing abnormal breakdown of blood vessels in the Kidney. There are other symptoms leading to hospitalization such as diarrhea with blood, fever ranging till 102 degrees, dehydration, dizziness and vomiting.
It is believed that the symptoms occur one or two couple of days after consuming Quarter Pounder. Each of the infected ones are diagnosed with the same strain of E. coli bacteria. Although few individuals developed serious conditions, most of the affected ones are still expected to recover within a week.
Immediate Actions
According to President of McDonald’s USA Joe Erlinger, he is very concerned about food safety for himself as well as his customers. He is taking all the necessary precautions to avoid further infections.
The investigators have cast doubts on the slivered onions and beef patties to be the potentially contaminated ingredients although the exact ingredient is still unknown. Investigators are still working to check the possible contaminated ingredients. Restaurants in the affected area are advised to remove both slivered onions and beef patties from their menu. They are also strictly advised to remove Quarter Pounder for some time.
Conclusion
Sometimes even eating in an old, renowned and multinational fast food restaurant chain might land you into a severe infectious outbreak because even one contamination from one distributor can spread across states and countries. This makes you think, what are you putting at risk when trusting huge corporations to keep up with food safety standards?
