Engagement to the Position of Senior Project Associate
CSIR – Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru, a constituent national laboratory of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), invites applications from eligible candidates for the recruitment of 1 position of Senior Project Associate initially for a period until March 2025. This may be extended based on the project requirement and performance of the candidate, or until the completion of the project, whichever comes first. The engagement is on a temporary contractual basis in the project titled “Millet-sustaining health through research and innovation by analysis of nutrients and nutraceuticals to achieve global awareness (SHRI ANNA)” (HCP0052), tenable at the Department of Flour Milling, Baking, and Confectionery Technology, CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru, Karnataka.

Essential Qualifications
:- Option 1: M.Sc. in Food Science/Food Technology from a recognized university with four years of experience in Research and Development in academic institutions or Science & Technology organizations.
- Option 2: M.E./M.Tech in Food Technology/Food Process Engineering from a recognized university with two years of experience in R&D in academic institutions or S&T organizations.
- Option 3: Doctoral Degree in Science/Engineering/Technology in Food Science and Food Technology-related areas from a recognized university or equivalent.
Job Requirements:
- Carry out activities related to grain milling, processing, component analysis, baking, and product development.
Subject Panel(s) to be chosen in the portal:
- Food Science & Technology including Nutrition
- Or
- Food Engineering & Agricultural Engineering
Note:
As per CSIR letter No. 5-1(342)/2015-PD dated 12.01.2023, the engagement of project staff shall be co-terminus with the term of the project. This is subject to the condition that the total period of the engagement of a project staff member in different projects, either in the same lab/instt. or different lab/instt. of CSIR, taken together, shall not exceed 5 years in any case. Therefore, applicants who have completed the total tenure of 5 years in any CSIR lab/instt. as project staff are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply for the aforementioned positions.
Desirable Qualification/Experience for SPA:
Experience in a reputed R&D institute in the areas of food analysis using modern analytical instruments, food product development, bioinformatics, downstream processing, and having computer knowledge in MS Office tools will be preferred.
Terms and Conditions:
Here’s the content formatted for better readability:
a) Only those candidates who have already acquired the essential qualification and whose results have been declared are eligible to apply. Candidates with pending results or who are in their final semester are not eligible to apply for any post.
b) The period of experience in a discipline/area of work, wherever prescribed, shall be counted after the date of acquiring the minimum prescribed educational qualifications for that post.
c) The engagement of Senior Project Associate is exclusively for the above-mentioned research work.
d) Applicants will be subjected to shortlisting by the designated committee according to current requirements. The candidates shortlisted for the interview will be displayed on the CSIR-CFTRI website. No TA/DA will be given to the candidates for attending the interview.
e) In the event of a large number of applications, the duly constituted committee will adopt its own criteria for short-listing the candidates to restrict the number of candidates to be called for an interview to a reasonable number using one or more of the following methods:
i) Based on the percentage of marks obtained in the essential qualification.
ii) Based on higher educational qualifications than the minimum prescribed in the advertisement.
iii) Based on desirable qualification/experience.
iv) Any other methodology as deemed fit by the committee.
f) Based on the performance of candidates in the interview, the result of selected candidates against the number of posts available in the project will be declared and posted on the CFTRI website. A panel of waitlisted candidates in order of merit will also be formed, valid for one year. The panel may be operated on the recommendation of the Project Investigator for meeting any future requirement in the project due to the resignation of incumbent/non-joining of selected candidates/further unforeseen/urgent requirements of project manpower for the same position in the same project.
g) Relaxation in age for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwBD/OBC will be applicable as per CSIR/GOI instructions. Preference may be given to SC/ST/OBC candidates over general candidates, so as to ensure their representation. Candidates should not exceed 40 years of age as of the last date of receiving applications, 27.04.2024.
h) The engagement of the above Project Staff will be contractual and purely on a temporary basis until March 2025. This may be extended based on project requirements and performance of the candidate or until the completion of the project, whichever is earlier and in any case co-terminus with the tenure of the sponsored/consultancy project. However, as per CSIR letter No. 5-1(342)/2015-PD dated 12.01.2023, engagement of Project Staff shall be co-terminus with the term of the Project subject to the condition that the total period of the engagement of Project Staff in different projects either in the same lab/instt. or different lab/instt. of CSIR taken together shall not exceed 5 years in any case. If the candidate is already working in CSIR/CSIR-CFTRI, a “NOC” from the current PI is mandatory for applying for the aforementioned project. In a case where the candidate is selected, engagement under this project would be made only after submission of ‘No Dues Certificate’ and resignation from the previous project.
i) The engagement shall be initially for a short duration based on availability of funds, which may be extended or curtailed based on the conduct and performance of the incumbent as well as the requirement of the institute. This may be extended further based on the recommendations of the Review Committee. However, the engagement will not be beyond the tenure of the project and shall expire automatically on the expiry of the project tenure, in which the candidate has been selected. The engagement under projects does not confer any right/claim whatsoever, either explicitly or implicitly, on the appointee for regular appointment in CSIR-CFTRI/CSIR, against any post or otherwise under any legal conditions or precedent.
j) The maximum duration for which Project staff could be engaged in different projects taken together will be 5 years. Candidates who have already served CSIR-CFTRI or any other lab/institute of CSIR as Project Staff at any level in CSIR projects (including NMITLI projects, OLP/MLP, Contract R&D, and non-CSIR funded projects) for a total period of 5 years or more are not eligible for these engagements.
k) The posts advertised are provisional and subject to ascertaining the availability of funds under the respective project before the declaration of results and issuance of engagement letters.
l) The performance of the Project Staff would be reviewed periodically so that any one not found up to the mark could be terminated. The engagement may be terminated at any time by the office without assigning any reasons.
m) CSIR-CFTRI reserves the right to cancel or withdraw the offer of engagement in case of any discrepancy found in the candidature of any empaneled candidate at any stage.
n) Candidates who are applying for the above post shall ensure that they fulfill the essential qualifications/experience. If they apply without fulfilling the essential qualifications, it will be considered that they are providing wrong/misleading information. The onus of this action will be on the candidate, not the institute. In case they are found not fulfilling the essential criteria or have provided misleading information, then their candidature for the post may be rejected at any stage of selection or after selection.
o) Other terms and conditions will be governed as per guidelines issued by the funding agency/CSIR for the engagement of above project staff as amended from time to time.
p) The Director, CSIR-CFTRI, has the right to amend, delete, or add terms and conditions to this notification. The director also reserves the right to cancel the advertisement without assigning any reason, or the right not to fill the posts, if required. The number of vacancies indicated above may vary; it may increase or decrease at the time of actual selection.
q) Canvassing in any form and/or bringing any influence, political or otherwise, will be treated as a disqualification for the post.
