Applications are invited from suitable candidates for one position of Junior Research Fellow in an ICMR funded Ad-hoc research project entitled “Addressing STIL as a major driver of drug resistance in colorectal cancer, independent of Shh pathway” in the Laboratory of Dr. S Asha Nair at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram.

Age – Below 28 years as on May 31, 2023. Age relaxation will be given as per Govt. of India norms.

Duration – Initially for a period of one year and extendable up to two more years or till termination of the project whichever is earlier based on performance evaluation on a yearly basis.

Selection Process & Instructions 

  1. Applications should be submitted online.
  2. Candidates who are currently working in Government firms should send applications through proper channels.
  3. The last date for receiving completed applications is May 31, 2023.
  4. If a candidate wishes to apply for different positions, separate applications should be submitted for each position. Selection of the position will not entitle the candidate to any future positions at RGCB (permanent or otherwise). As with all project positions at RGCB, the position will be co-terminus with the end of the project.

Applications which are not in the prescribed format will summarily be rejected.

Only those fulfilling the above criteria need to apply. Applicants will be shortlisted for the ONLINE selection interview based on eligibility criteria. Selection of suitable candidates will be made based on qualifications and performance in the selection interview.

Essential Qualifications – The candidate must have an MSc/B. Tech in Life Sciences and should have qualified NET with a demonstrable understanding of basic molecular biology. The candidate must have prior experience in animal cell culture and must have a keen interest in cancer research, be willing to learn quickly and with good organizational and interpersonal skills.

Emoluments – ₹ 31,000/- + 16% HRA per month.

Answer: I am well aware of the significance of drug resistance in cancer treatment and the importance of exploring new therapeutic targets. In particular, I am familiar with the role of STIL as a driver of drug resistance in colorectal cancer. I believe my understanding of molecular biology, coupled with my previous experience in cancer research, will enable me to contribute effectively to this project.
  4. Can you provide an example of a challenging situation you faced during your previous research work and how you overcame it? Answer: During my previous research project, I encountered a technical issue that affected the reproducibility of our results. To address this, I thoroughly reviewed the experimental protocol, consulted with my supervisor and colleagues, and implemented troubleshooting strategies. By identifying the root cause and making necessary adjustments, I was able to overcome the challenge and successfully complete the project.
  5. How do you manage your time and prioritize tasks in a research setting? Share an instance where you effectively managed multiple responsibilities and deadlines. Answer: Time management and prioritization are crucial in research. I prioritize tasks by assessing their urgency, importance, and deadlines. I create a schedule, set realistic goals, and allocate sufficient time for each task. In a previous project, I successfully managed multiple responsibilities, including conducting experiments, analyzing data, and preparing reports, by effectively organizing my time, seeking assistance when needed, and maintaining clear communication with my team.
