PhD Not Mandatory, NET Qualification Sufficient For Assistant Professors Posts
According to Telangana Today, M Jagadesh Kumar, the University Grants Commission (UGC) chairperson, announced at the inauguration of the newly constructed UGC-HRDC building on the Osmania University (OU) campus that a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is not necessary for recruitment to the posts of Assistant Professors in central universities. Kumar stated that a qualification in the Commission’s National Eligibility Test (NET) would suffice. This decision aims to allow professionals without PhDs to be appointed as assistant professors in universities throughout India and provide opportunities to experts who desire to teach but lack a PhD degree.
Kumar also mentioned that a one nation-one data portal is being developed to provide all UGC guidelines and other crucial information to candidates. Kumar added that quality education will be extended directly to students via the National Digital University beginning the next academic year.
