About BITS BioCyTiH Foundation

The BITS BioCyTiH Foundation (henceforth “The Foundation”) is a Section 8 non-profit company hosted by BITS Pilani under the National Mission of Interdisciplinary Cyber-physical Systems (NM- ICPS) of Government of India (GOI).

The mandate of the company is to fashion a platform that would foster translational research, innovation, skill development and training in areas of bio-cyber-physical systems (Bio-CPS) related to healthcare, agriculture, water and environment. The aim is to build state of the art national facilities across three campuses of BITS Pilani (viz. Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad), extend support to researchers, innovators and startups building products and solutions. As part of the infrastructure a Bio-CPS focused incubator is planned to be built and operationalized which will house innovators and startups. Additionally, the Foundation will establish national and international partnerships and create a network of aligned organisations.

The context and the role:

The Foundation was established in 2021 and the role provides an opportunity to build an
organization from its nascent stages and strengthen it for future

growth. The executive team is being built and the Foundation is hosted by BITS Pilani (across its three campuses) and is connected to top researchers in the BITS network. The position reports to and would work closely with the CEO of the Foundation.

We are looking for a dynamic leader who can manage several workstreams simultaneously, work under tight schedules and is a self-starter by nature. The founding team of the Foundation will function with an entrepreneurial mindset and hence nimbleness, adaptability, ability to function under tight deadlines are key attributes. This role will require interactions with a wide gamut of stakeholders- researchers, students, startups, industry, government and not-profit organisations and we expect empathy and sound judgement in successful candidates. POST 1

Position: Senior Manager/Manager Strategy, Operations & Business Development

Primary Location
: BITS Pilani, KK Birla Goa Campus, Goa

Start Date
: Immediate

Contract
: 2 years and extendable depending on funding and performance

Salary
: INR 13 to 18 lakhs consolidated per annum with no other allowances

Reporting to
: CEO, BITS BioCyTiH Foundation

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, coordinate and orchestrate strategy, operations (including technical and
    business operations) as well as business development for BioCyTiH Foundation across
    different locations of BITS Pilani (Goa, Pilani and Hyderabad) and in locations of
    Foundation’s partnering organisations
  • Establish technical and operational processes, refine processes, generate due diligence and assessment reports of various activities of the Foundation
  • Co-ordinate and track milestone achievements and gaps of translational research
    programs of the Foundation, collate data on different aspects of projects of the
    Foundation (& its partnering organizations), extract meaningful information and able to
    present information in a cogent and a succinct manner as well as prepare reports to
    communicate internally and externally to different organisations and GOI
  • Manage various projects, budgets including grant management and oversight of
    committed projects of the Foundation to different funding agencies as well as funded
    projects by the Foundation
  • Provide regular briefs about status of the different projects in the Foundation to the CEO
  • Contribute to a monthly MIS for the Foundation and its related activities for the CEO
  • Lead stakeholder management including translational research institutions, startups,
    innovators, industry, government and other non-profit organizations as well as vendor
    managementIdentify new opportunities for business and strategic growth for the Foundation through identifying new funding and partnership opportunities
  • Co-ordinate with internal and external stakeholders for business and operational
    functional efficiency of the Foundation
  • Responsible for generating appropriate responses to official queries from Government
    agencies and other stakeholders
  • Regularly scan and understand technology advancement globally in the Bio-CPS arena and help prepare knowledge reports and briefings for the Foundation
  • Lead design and delivery of entrepreneurial programs focused to early stage, mid-stage
    and mature startups/innovators
  • Lead organization of knowledge exchange platforms such as convenings, webinars,
    roundtables and seminars
  • Coordinate with internal team members of different verticals of the Foundation such as
    the Bio-CPS incubator, DIAL, EIR, technical officers, researchers and students for smooth
    functioning of the Foundation
  • Prepare powerpoint presentations and briefing notes for business development activities
  • Represent the Foundation in national and global forums
  • Any other work deemed fit that is of strategic and operational nature within the
    Foundation

Qualification and Experience:

Essential:

Senior Manager:

  • PhD in Lifesciences/Biosciences/& Physical Sciences, Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of work experience
  • Masters (MSc, MTech, MS in Lifesciences/Biosciences/& Physical Sciences, Engineering)
    with a 12 years of work experience

Manager:

  • PhD in Lifesciences/Biosciences/& Physical Sciences, Engineering with a minimum of 3
    years of work experience
  • Masters (MSc, MTech, MS in Lifesciences/Biosciences/& Physical Sciences, Engineering)
    with 7 years of work experience

Ideal Work Experience:

-We are looking for candidates with work experience in science, technology and innovation
management, project management, grant management, operations, a deep understanding
of different aspects of technology, public and private funding for startups, startup
ecosystem, especially in life sciences/biotech and medtech in India and globally.

Desirable:

  • International exposure of S&T innovation, fund management, exposure to varied systems of funding agencies, technical and business operations in a S&T innovation agency
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Deep interests in technology, technology management and operational efficiency
  • Confident and dynamic with an ability to work under strict timelines, operational efficiency and diligent attitude

Position: Associate Manager Incubation & Entrepreneurship Development

Primary Location: BITS Pilani, KK Birla Goa Campus, Goa

: INR 6-9 lakhs consolidated per annum with no other allowances

Reporting to
: CEO, BITS BioCyTiH Foundation & working closely with Senior Manager Incubation and Entrepreneurship Development

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to design and operationalise an overall strategy and a business plan for the Bio-CPS focused incubator as part of the Foundation
  • Build and manage an effective team for efficient management of the incubator
  • Prepare overall policies and strategies for building a pipeline of innovators, startups,
    including entry and exit policy, and innovators focused on building innovative products in
    the Bio-CPS arena
  • Prepare and operationalize a revenue model for the incubator including integrating rental
    and a service model mechanism
  • Plan manage the overall budget of the Incubator
  • Understand the infrastructural needs of innovators/startups and develop an
    instrumentation facility and laboratory facility for the incubator including a plan for
    maintenance of the facility
  • Prepare and operationalize a strategy to connect with important startup ecosystem
    players, business development and funding (from public, private and non-profit
    organisations) for the incubator that is aligned with the overall objectives of the
    Foundation
  • Build acceleration and business growth programs for innovators/startups associated with
    the incubators as well as researchers associated with the Foundation
  • Connect with relevant stakeholders and funding agencies such as DST, DBT-BIRAC, AIM and seek support
  • Operationalise all elements of the Incubation programs and processes including CPS-
    PRAYAS, CPS-EIR, CPS-DIAL in coordination with other staff at the Foundation
  • Interact and engage with technical, business, private & public funders, IP firms, regulatory experts, clinicians, sales and marketing experts, and form a mentor/expert network to advise startups and innovators associated with the incubators
  • Create a communication plan for the Incubator that aligns with the communication plan of the Foundation, including social media and other channels
  • Organise convenings, workshops, seminars/webinars, talk series
  • Actively support the Foundation and seek appropriate funding for the incubator as well as for the Foundation from funding agencies
  • Extend active support to the CEO and other leadership of the Foundation in its
    entrepreneurial and other activities
  • Identify new opportunities for business growth for the Foundation through identifying new funding opportunities.
  • Represent the Incubator at appropriate platforms

  • Masters (MTech, MS) in Engineering, Biomedical Sciences or Physical Sciences with 2 years of work experience in operations within a S&T incubator
  • Understanding of startup funding cycles including basics of venturing funding
  • Understanding of business plans and go-to-market strategies

Ideal Work Experience:

We are looking for candidates with work experience in science, technology and innovation
and incubation management, project management, grant management, operations, a
deep understanding of different aspects of technology, public and private funding for
startups, startup ecosystem especially in lifesciences/biotech and medtech in India and
globally.

Desirable:

  • International exposure of S&T innovation with incubation exposure in an Indian incubator, innovators and startups
  • Preferable with an Engineering degree from a reputed institute
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
