PhD Program in Systems Biology at the Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB)

Ph.D. Program in Systems Biology

Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB) is an internationally renowned interdisciplinary research institution founded in 2002 by Dr. Akhilesh Pandey in the vibrant city of Bangalore (https://www.ibioinformatics.org/). Over the last two decades, IOB has made seminal contributions in the fields of bioinformatics, multi-Omics, systems biology and its application to various basic and clinical research. IOB has produced ~600 peer-reviewed research publications and has obtained several grants including Center of Excellence from key funding bodies including Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance, DBT, DST, CSIR and ICMR. IOB has a strong track-record in training interdisciplinary scientists through its Ph.D. program with 62 students who have graduated many of whom are current postdoctoral fellows, staff or faculty in internationally renowned institutions.

IOB has now launched a new interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Systems Biology to solve key challenges in the fields of genetic disorders, infectious diseases and chronic diseases such as cancer using cutting-edge multi-Omics technologies. IOB is a pioneer in multi-Omics technologies and is one of the first few institutions in India to house state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based proteomics facility. IOB houses a broad portfolio of cutting-edge multi-Omics as well as

computational infrastructure and the students will get hands-on training on these new platforms. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to work on analysis and integration of omics data including genomic, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics for which IOB has state-of-art infrastructure. The selected candidates will be enrolled for their Ph.D. at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should send their CV, academic record, research statement and letter of recommendations from three referees to [email protected] on or before March 10, 2023 along with their academic record. Selection will be based on academic merit and performance in an interview. Applicants can apply in following two categories:

  1. Applicants must hold M.Sc./M.Tech in Bioinformatics/Computer Science Preference will be given to the candidates with experience in programming in Python/Perl/R and multi-Omics technologies including next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis is desirable.
  2. Applicants must hold M.Sc./M.Tech in any area Life Sciences/ Biotechnology Preference will be given to the candidates with experience in wet lab to perform genomics/proteomics/metabolomics-based experiments.
