Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is a part of the inter-disciplinary Biotech Science Cluster at Faridabad in the National Capital Region. THSTI is designed to be a dynamic and interactive organization with a mission to conduct innovative translational research across disciplines and professions to accelerate the development of concepts into products to improve human health. THSTI is a recognized R&D institute of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi offering doctoral programs in
biomedical science research.
Applications are invited for the THSTI-JNU PhD program under biomedical research.
The thematic areas of ongoing research are:
- Infection & Immunology
- Maternal & Child Health
- Non-Communicable Disease
- Multidisciplinary Clinical & Translational Research
- Mathematical modeling of biological systems

The candidate must fulfil one of the following criteria:
Group A:
(a) Ought To have a Master’s degree in any branch of biomedical/ life sciences (including veterinary science, public health, pharmaceutical sciences), bioinformatics, chemistry, computer science or mathematics or a B Technology in Biotechnology from a recognized university with at the very least 55% marks or its equivalent (e.g.: grade B in the UGC 7-point scale).
(b) Must have qualified in the JRF exam of CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT (category I only), NBHM or AYUSH-NET which provides fellowship for their PhD program.
Keep in mind: Applicants having AYUSH-NET fellowship will conduct research study operate in the fields associated with AYUSH only.
Group B: (THSTI fellowship equivalent to the CSIR-UGC Fellowship amount).
(a) Ought To have MBBS/ BDS/ BAMS/ BHMS/ MD/ MDS/ MPH or its equivalent from a recognized university/institute with at least 55% marks or its equivalent OR.
(b) BE/B. Tech. (computer science/ biotechnology/ biomedical engineering/ mechanical/ electronics/ electrical engineering)/ B. Pharma or post-graduate degree in Life Sciences (all disciplines), pharmacy, medicinal chemistry, chemistry, physics, math or bioinformatics from a recognized university/institute with at the very least 55% marks or its equivalent together with NET-LS/DBT-II category or a valid GPAT/GATE qualification OR.
(c) Ought to have SRF fellowship from ICMR, CSIR.
Candidates appearing in the final qualifying examination may likewise use. Nonetheless, they will be needed to fulfil the above academic/ fellowship criteria at the time of joining the PhD program.
A relaxation in marks/ grade during Master’s Degree for those belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled or any other category will be applicable based on the UGC notification 2016 or subsequent notification in effect at the time of interview.

Incomplete applications in any respect will be summarily rejected and also no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
Application fee: Non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500 for General and OBC candidates, and Rs. 250 for SC/ST/Women/differently-abled candidates should be paid through online mode.
Selection procedure:
Names of shortlisted candidates for Group A as well as Group B will be announced on our website.
- Group A: The candidates shortlisted for Group A will be called directly for the interview.
- Group B: The candidates shortlisted for Group B will need to appear for the written examination. Those who will qualify for the written examination will be required for the interview.
The dates for the written examination as well as the interview will be announced later on.
The final selection will be made based on the candidate’s performance in the interview as well as the list of chosen candidates will be released on the THSTI website.
Note: The dates might be extended depending upon the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. The same will be notified on our website.
Fellowship: Students from group A, selected for admission to the PhD program and holding fellowship from any of the above agencies have to activate their own fellowship. Students chosen from Group B will be awarded a THSTI fellowship equivalent to the CSIR-UGC Fellowship amount.
No. of seats: A maximum of 08 candidates may be selected this session.
Reservations: 27% seats for OBC (non-creamy layer), 15% seats for SC, 7.5% seats for ST and 3% seats for a differently-abled person are reserved for candidates belonging to these categories. SC/ ST/ OBC candidates are required to submit certificates in respect of their claims from authorized officers as notified by the Government for the purpose from time to time. The differently-abled (with a minimum of 40% disability) candidates are required to submit a certificate from authorized Medical Doctors/ Hospitals indicating the extent of physical disability.
Academic program: Selected students will have to undergo PhD coursework for 2 semesters. Those having successfully completed the PhD coursework requirement will be recommended to JNU for PhD registration. For the award of the doctoral degree, the candidate will have to complete all the requirements as per the JNU rules.
Fees: Admission fees, annual fees, registration fees or any other fees levied by JNU shall be payable by the student.
Hostel: Selected students will have the option of shared hostel accommodation in lieu of their HRA.
