Description:

Foundation for Medical Research (FMR), Mumbai is looking for a mid-level bioinformatician with M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) with 3-5 years of experience in bioinformatic analysis of next-generation sequence (NGS) data analysis and maintain stringent data quality control systems in place. The candidate should have extensive experience

with Linux operating system and R language. The candidate should have the ability to write command scripts and execute commands.

FMR is part of the CRyPTIC international consortium and has conducted whole genome
sequencing (Illumina platform) of 7,000 clinical TB isolates from India over the last 5 years and has generated the largest TB genome database in India till date. FMR also has an in house Nanopore sequencer – MinION (Oxford Nanopore Technologies, UK) and have been using it for direct sputum DNA sequencing towards standardization of a rapid method for determining drug susceptibility profile and strain lineage of the TB bacteria in sputum of TB patients. FMR is also involved in sequencing SARS-CoV-2 genomes from COVID-19 patients since last year considering the urgency and need to identify the viral variants during the COVID-19 pandemic. FMR is also undertaking multiple TB genome related and SARS-CoV-2 related projects in near future. The candidate is expected to conduct various analyses on the genome sequence data generated using Illumina, Nanopore and possibly other NGS platforms (such as PacBio) for TB and COVID-19 related studies.

Basic Requirements:

  1. Well-versed with Linux (Ubuntu) OS and R language.
  2. Ability to process and backup genome sequence data (FASTQ, FAST5, etc.).
  3. Ability to analyse NGS data using available tools like Mykrobe Predictor & PANGOLIN, and pipelines such as MTBSeq & FieldBioinformatics.
  4. Should be able to actively write new command scripts and run commands.
  5. Preferably less than 40 years of age.
  6. Dynamic and adaptive personality.
  7. Desirable to be resident within limits of Mumbai city.
