Background and Scope:
The goal of this 15 days short-term training course is to highlight a variety of aspects of Drosophila development as a model organism in interdisciplinary research. This STTC includes hands-on training, demonstrations and lectures from experts and members of the
core committee in the relevant fields.
Objective of the Course:
- To provide cutting-edge laboratory research techniques in biological science, health science, animal science and pharmaceutical to faculty, mid-career UG/ PG scientists, and researchers.
- To use Drosophila as a model organism for research in the field of nanobiotechnology, particularly in the areas of safety analysis and toxicity assessment.
- To study the impacts of nanomaterials ingestion on fertility and reproductive performance, biochemical assays and behavioral assays of Drosophila.
- To facilitate the exchange of information and expertise on Drosophila genetics in undergraduate and graduate education, as well as Nano-biotechnology, neurodegenerative disease, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.

- Introduction to Drosophila fruit fly and culturing techniques in laboratory.
- Demonstration of Drosophila field collection techniques in the field.
- Drosophila sex and species identification and separation.
- Knowledge of Drosophila species and mutants.
- The importance/preparation of the Drosophila polytene chromosome and imaginal discs.
