Portal For COVID-19 Vaccine Information by ICMR
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the pinnacle health research body, is in the process of developing a vaccine portal which will give information related to the COVID-19 vaccine development in India and also abroad, and most of the updates will be provided in English and several local languages.
Samiran Panda, Head of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at ICMR said that the objective of developing this portal is to provide all details and updates relating to the COVID-19 vaccine development at one platform as all the details hereof are scattered as of now.
Panda said that the concept behind making the updates available in local languages is to ensure every resident is able to access the info, and the portal is most likely to be functional by next week.
The portal would be made functional in phases, in the first phase, the portal will give all details pertaining to COVID-19 vaccine in India and abroad.
He added that details regarding all other vaccines used to prevent various other diseases will certainly be added to the portal over a time period.
Three COVID-19 vaccine candidates, including two indigenous ones, are in different phases of
clinical trials, in India.Balram Bhargava, Director General, ICMR said that phase-1 human clinical trials of the two COVID-19 vaccine candidates developed indigenously by Bharat Biotech in cooperation with ICMR and Zydus Cadila Ltd have been completed and have moved to phase 2 of clinical trials.
Permission for conducting Phase 2 and 3 human clinical trials of the vaccine candidate in India has bee gained by the Serum Institute of India, which has partnered with AstraZeneca for manufacturing the COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed by the University of Oxford. Most likely the trials will begin by next week.
