US Military Research New Covid19 Test – “Early Detection” Test
To help prevent people infected with COVID-19 from spreading the virus, the US military scientists are working on a new “early detection” test for Covid-19.
As a part of the ECHO program, to identify if troops had been exposed to chemical and biological weapons, the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) had developed the technology.
The scientists involved in this project said that they are hoping for the test to diagnose the disease as early as 24 hours after exposure, which is around four days quicker than the tests that exist now.
This would significantly decrease the time contagious carriers are potentially able to spread the virus as many infected people do not develop symptoms until around five days and some do not at all show any symptoms.
Dr. Eric Van Gieson, “We are all immensely excited. As quickly as we can, we want to roll out this test, but we also want to share it with others whomight want to implement in their own countries at the same.”
“For an adenovirus and for influenza, we have evidence that diagnosis happens in the first 24 hours. To prove the same with Covid-19, we are putting in maximum efforts.”
Three different diagnostic technologies are being evaluated currently, said the agency.
