Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) is an institution of national importance created by  An Act of Parliament under the aegis of UNESCO together with the primary focus of providing world-class education and training, and to conduct innovative research at the interface of various disciplines to make high-quality human resource in the region of biotechnology. RCB is offering interdisciplinary doctoral programs in Biostatistics and Bioinformatics in partnership with other institutions by creating a virtual faculty pool. All these programmes will be supported through a collaboration using the global pharmaceutical giant, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals India Private Ltd. (GSK) and therefore are subject to RCB statutes, ordinances and regulations. Faculty for the Programme: In addition to RCB faculty members, the following mentors from the partner institutions, holding an adjunct faculty position at RCB, will function as faculty for the programme.

Eligibility for admission:

For your PhD programme in Biostatistics, the candidate should have a first-class (60% marks Or more) Master’s degree in Statistics or Mathematics.

For the PhD programme in Bioinformatics, the candidate must have a first-class (60% marks or more) Master’s degree in Computer Science or Bioinformatics.

Those appearing in the final examination and having secured at least 60 percent marks an Average in all exams held throughout the Master’s degree programme will also be eligible to apply. But, students will be permitted to join the program just on the production of first class Master’s degree certificate.

The selection process of admission and stipend:

Eligible candidates need to appear to get a nationally-open written examination in RCB. Shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed to your final choice. Selected candidates Shall receive a consolidated stipend of Rs. 45000 a month for the first two years of the Program and Rs. 50000 for the next 3 years. The stipend shall be subject to taxes as per Govt. of India rules. Continuation of the stipend is subject to satisfactory progress made by The student to be evaluated yearly.

A total of four students may be selected annually to those programs.

Coursework:

In the first year, the students admitted to these programmes will experience rigorous Coursework either at RCB or even NIBMGto finish the minimum 8 credit requirement for RCB PhD programme according to its statues, ordinances and regulations. There’ll also be a three-months statistical internship at GSK’s Clinical Development Operations Centre at Bengaluru during the programme for the Biostatistics students. Application process: Interested students may apply online by paying the prescribed application fee of Rs. 500. The final date of application is 20 May 2019. Eligible applicants will be invited for a written exam and interview on 24-25 June 2019 at RCB, Faridabad.

Fee Structure

  • Academic Administration Fee: Rs. 5000 per semester
  • Laboratory Fee: Rs. 6000 per semester
  • Medical Fee: Rs. 3000 per semester
  • Student amenities Fee: Rs. 1000 per semester
  • Thesis examination Fee: Rs. 10000 (at the time of submission of thesis)
  • Caution money: Rs. 5000 (at the time of admission)
  • Hostel Room Fee: Rs. 1200 per semester
  • Hostel Electricity charges: As per the installed meter
  • Mess Charges: As per actual
