Cabinet Approves Extension of Biomedical Research Career Programme
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, has given green signal for the continuation of BRCP – Biomedical Research Career Program, and Wellcome Trust (WT) / DBT India Alliance past its first 10-year term (2008-09 to 2018-29) to a brand new five-year stage (2019-20 into 2023-24) with Department of Biotechnology (DBT) increasing its commitment to 2 times that of Wellcome Trust.
The whole financial inference comes out to be Rs.1092 crore with DBT and Wellcome Trust contributing Rs.728 crore and Rs.364 crore each respectively.
Over a period of 10 years of financing at a 1:1 partnership, the Program has fulfilled its objectives of nurturing and developing the talent of highest global standards in biomedical research in India, which has resulted in significant breakthroughs and applications to meet social demands.
Biomedical Research Career Programme – BRCP has been successful in attracting high-quality Indian scientists working abroad to return to India by increasing the number of locations geographically within India where a world-class biomedical study is undertaken.
Next phase suggests the Programme would continue to create this capacity as also strengthen research and work towards fixing important health challenges. Continuation of those Program with
