Org. Setting and Reporting

APCTT strives to strengthen the national capacity of member countries to nurture and encourage National Innovation Systems (NIS) for fostering technology-based sustainable improvement. The Centre concentrates on developing an enabling environment for the development and transfer of technology so the member nations could meet with the development challenges in the modern globalized world.

The internship in the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) is to get no less than two months with a chance to expand it for

more than six months, even if needed by APCTT.
The internship is UNPAID and fulltime.
Interns operate five days each week under the supervision of a team member/overall oversight of the Head, APCTT from the office or department to which they’re assigned.

Obligations:

Daily duties will be dependent on the person’s background and the intern’s assigned office in addition to the internship period. Duties may include, but Aren’t Limited to the following:

1. Proofreading texts for mistakes in punctuation, grammar and spelling. Correct issues concerning style and editorial policy.
2. Assessing English language of the draft papers, concept notes and project records for technical collaboration, history papers including the APCTT Governing Council, policy documents, publications; texts on APCTT site; info flyers, amongst others.
3. Assessing for repetition and summarizing succinctly to deliver clear messages to the planned stakeholders.
4. Assessing the presentation mode of this draft as well as the appropriateness in accord with the UN templates.
5. Other ad-hoc responsibilities associated with technical cooperation project implementations delegated by means of a staff/the Head of APCTT.

The intern will use the designated team of the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) from the execution of the Centre’s purposeful work programme. The work programme commonly involves promoting and developing regional mechanisms and platforms, capacity building of policymakers and associations and executing normative and analytical work to help ESCAP member countries in the following regions:

National Innovation Systems (NIS), Technology Innovation Management, Development and Transfer of Technology; Technology Facilitation for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using a particular focus on nutritional and food security, energy security and environmental sustainability; New and Emerging technologies (e.g. biotechnology, nanotechnology, ICT, Internet of Things, and renewable energy); Technology Intelligence Services (e.g. periodicals & books, research & analytical research ); and Digital Strategy (sites, social media etc. ) to improve the outreach and impact of this programme outputs and results ).

The essence of the job that would be delegated to an intern would rely on the intern’s professional and academic history and his/her region of interest fulfilling the necessities of the work programme of the Centre. The interns will be provided with particular TOR (terms of reference) related to the specific programme area assigned to them.

Communication: Ability to draft clearly and concisely, great oral and written language abilities.

Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from other cultural and national backgrounds to attain organizational objectives.

Client Orientation: Considers those to whom services are given to be’customers’ and attempts to find things from customers’ standpoint.

Planning & Organizing: Develops clear goals which are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority actions and duties; Assessing priorities as needed.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must fulfil one of the following prerequisites:

A) Be registered in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or greater ); or
B) Be registered in the last academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
C) Have graduated with a related university degree (as described previously ) and, if chosen, should commence the internship within a 1-year interval of graduation.

Work Experience

Interns aren’t required to possess professional work experience for involvement in the programme.
They will be computer literate in standard software applications;
They must have a proven keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of this Charter; and
They must possess a proven ability to successfully interact with people of various cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including openness to comprehend and be tolerant of differing views and perspectives.

Languages

Fluency in written and spoken English is necessary for the internship. A candidate with a native speaker of English is going to get an advantage.
