Job Title : PhD position within Systems Virology and Immunology

We have a vacancy at the Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine (IKOM) for a PhD candidate within the field of Systems Virology and Immunology (SVIM). We seek a talented and enthusiastic individual with experience within medicine, biology and/or bioinformatics.

The PhD candidate is expected to start in January 2018.

SVIM is a new group at the NTNU which aims to develop novel modalities to tackle emerging and re-emerging viral diseases.  SVIM lab is now looking to recruit a PhD candidate to understand why some people develop mild while others severe respiratory viral diseases and discover and develop novel evidence-based medical solutions for diagnostics, prognostics and targeted treatment of these individuals.

The period of employment for the position as a PhD candidate is 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time. Admission to a doctoral degree program is a requirement for employment as a PhD candidate. Requirements of the applicant:

  • A MSc in bioinformatics, statistics, or relevant field (completed or in progress – should be completed by 31.12.2017)
  • A strong academic record with a weighted average grade of master’s with a grade of B or higher, in accordance with NTNU’s grading system, or equivalent education
  • A solid background in bioinformatics and statistics
  • A track record of scientific publications, participation in national and international scientific projects, and collaborations with academic groups or biotech companies
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

Emphasis will also be placed on:

  • Experience in collating and merging diverse data types
  • Personal motivation and proven ability to work independently and in a team
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Depending on qualifications and academic background, PhD Candidates (in code 1017) at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences will be remunerated at a minimum of NOK 436 500 per year before tax. Normal wage level is NOK 436 500 – 499 200 of which 2% is deducted for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The appointment will be made in accordance with current regulations and supplementary rules with guidelines for employment as PhD Candidate appointments at universities and university colleges.
