5th TRAINING WORKSHOP 30th January to 1st February 2017
Hands-on Training and Workshop on “Combination of wet lab (HPLC) and dry lab (in silico) techniques in detection and activity-evaluation of biomolecules”.
Introduction
Plants are the mainstay of age old Folk and Traditional Medicines. Even today, most of the drugs in market are derived from natural resources, mostly plants. The medicinal importance of these plants lies in their secondary metabolites having distinct physiological action. The major bioactive constituents of plants includes Steroids, Terpenoids, Tannins, Carotenoids, Flavonoids, Alkaloids and Glycosides. HPLC is a popular technique in Analytical Chemistry used to separate, identify, and quantify such bioactive constituents. Further, in silico studies are carried out to reduce the time and resource in drug development pathway by predicting and simulating the chemical interactions of the bioactive constituents using computational biology. In silico evaluation also helps in deciding the drug-likeliness of bioactive compounds.
The objectives of the workshop will be to connect medicinal plant research with computational biology through:
1. Identification and quantification of selected bioactive constituents from medicinal plants through RP-HPLC.
2. In silico studies on understanding possible mechanism of action
of selected constituents.Course content:
1. Wet-lab exercise on preparation of plant material and extraction
a. Extraction methods and procedures
b. Introduction to instrumentation of HPLC
c. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of selected bioactive constituents
2. In silico studies of identified bioactive constituents
a. Virtual screening and filtering of bioactive constituents from plant sources.
b. Molecular docking to find the best configuration of binding.
c. ADMET evaluation of finalized bioactive constituents.
Registration Fee Registration fee for the workshop is 2000/- (INR). The Mode of Payment will be by D.D./Cash in favour of Director, RMRC, Belagavi.
Level of Participants
The eligibility criterion for applicants is a Post Graduate degree in Life sciences/ Ayurveda/ Pharmacy. Preference will be given to candidates having/pursuing Ph.D or working as a junior faculty in academic or research organizations/projects.

Maximum no. of participants: 10 Registrations will be confirmed after screening and short listing. Selected candidates will be intimated through E-mail. The DD of unregistered candidates will be sent back.
