Job Overview
The Scientist – Protein Sciences is responsible for planning and executing protein purification and characterization experiments to support molecule screening and evaluation. The role involves hands-on laboratory work, data analysis, and ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards while contributing to scientific innovation and process development.
Key Responsibilities
- Experimental Design & Execution
- Designs purification strategies based on protein class, structural features, biochemical properties, literature, and SOPs.
- Executes purification workflows, performs troubleshooting, and optimizes experimental conditions to meet project requirements.
- Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyzes and interprets protein characterization data to support molecule evaluation and decision-making.
- Presents results in standardized data management formats.
- Quality & Compliance
- Maintains accurate and traceable documentation in accordance with ALCOA+ principles and internal quality standards.
- Ensures adherence to safety, quality, and compliance protocols in the laboratory.
- Team & Laboratory Support
- Contributes to laboratory maintenance and operational efficiency.
- Supports training of new team members and participates in knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Key Technical Requirements
- Expertise in downstream processing and protein purification
- Hands-on experience with AKTA-based chromatography and method selection
- Protein characterization techniques, including:
- Purity assessment
- Mass spectrometry interpretation
- Stability profiling
- Physicochemical analysis
- Experience handling complex protein targets such as:
- Membrane proteins
- GPCRs
- Multi-subunit proteins
- Endotoxin-free (endofree) proteins
- Inclusion body solubilization and refolding
- Process scale-up to gram quantities
- Bio-conjugation techniques (cysteine, lysine, linker-based strategies)
Desirable Skills
- Experience in protein crystallization
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline
- 2–7 years of experience in protein sciences, with a focus on purification and characterization
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of protein structure–function relationships
- Ability to interpret complex analytical data
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in experimental workflows
- Knowledge of safety, quality, and compliance standards in discovery research labs
