Ph.D. Programme at BRIC-NBRC (Neuroscience Research)
The National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) (BRIC-NBRC) offers a highly interdisciplinary Ph.D. Programme in Biotechnology, focused on cutting-edge research in neuroscience. The degree is awarded by the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB).

Course Structure
- Selected candidates undergo 6 months of coursework
- Training spans from molecular to computational neuroscience
- Includes lab rotations/exposure to help students choose research areas
Fellowship & Duration
- Candidates must hold a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) from agencies such as:
- CSIR / UGC / DBT / DST / ICMR / NHBM
- JRF is applicable for the first 2 years
- Followed by a Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) as per funding agency rules
- Total tenure (JRF + SRF): Maximum 5 years
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have:
- Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Natural Sciences: Life Sciences
Note: Final-year students are also eligible to apply.
Minimum Marks
- 60% in Higher Secondary (10+2)
- 55% in Bachelor’s and above
- 5% relaxation for reserved categories (as per Government of India norms)
Fellowship Requirement (Mandatory)
Applicants must have qualified any one of the following with a valid fellowship:
- CSIR-UGC JRF
- DBT-JRF
- ICMR-JRF
- DST-INSPIRE
- NHBM
- Any other national-level fellowship (valid till January 2027)
Seats & Reservation
- Number of Seats: ~10 (tentative; varies each session)
- Reservation: As per the Government of India guidelines
Selection Process
- Shortlisting based on the national fellowship exam performance
- Followed by an interview at BRIC-NBRC
