Eligibility Criteria

  • Students must meet the following conditions to apply:
    • B.Tech./BE students completing the Second/Third year (or Fourth/Sixth Semester).
    • M.Tech./ME/M.Sc./MS students completing the First Year (or Second Semester).
    • B.Sc. students completing Second year.
  • Minimum CGPA: 5 (out of 10) or 65% aggregate marks (up to the latest published semester results).
  • Candidates must be regular full-time students with no back papers and no disciplinary actions from their parent institute.
  • Students of NIT Calicut are not eligible to apply as this is a scheme exclusively for students outside NITC.

Important Notes

  1. Multiple applications by a single applicant are not permitted and will result in rejection.
  2. You can apply for an internship in only one department at NIT
  3. During the application, you will select the desired internship duration, mode, and up to three faculty members and topics of interest.

Timeline

  • Application end date and time: 00 PM on 23 March 2026 Thursday,
  • Scrutiny of applications/ Selection process by the respective department: March 24 – April 01, 2026.
  • Candidates may be called for an Interview (if any) by the respective department during the selection process.
  • Selection intimation by CCD: 06 April 2026
  • SIP will be between May 4 and July 15,
  • Students opting for the two-month internship should report between May 4 and May 15, 2026, and the internship must be completed by July 15, 2026.
  • Students opting for the one-month internship must report on or before June 15, 2026.

How to Apply?

  • Prepare required documents in PDF format including resume, SOP, certificates, marksheets, and ID (single file under 5 MB) along with a passport-size photo (<50 KB)
  • Ensure you have an APAAR ID; if not, create one via DigiLocker using Aadhaar and academic details
  • Register on the SIP portal using Google sign-in with your Gmail ID
  • Fill in all mandatory details in the application form
  • Pay the non-refundable registration fee of ₹118 and save the payment proof
  • Log in to the SIP dashboard and select up to three project preferences from the same department
  • Wait for selection updates via email (multiple rounds of selection will be conducted)
  • If selected, pay the internship fee before the deadline (₹5900 for 2 months / ₹3540 for 1 month)
  • If not selected, update project preferences for subsequent rounds without paying the registration fee again
  • Follow email updates for further rounds, deadlines, and selection process details

Selection Process

The selection process will have three rounds of allotment, and applicants who are not allotted in one round will be considered in the subsequent rounds. Allotment will be based on the applicant’s credentials and preferences.
