Senior Research Fellow at NIBMG | Earn ₹42,000 per month | Apply Now
The National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), an autonomous institution of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), has announced a high-impact Senior Research Fellow (SRF) position in Kalyani, West Bengal. This NIBMG recruitment is part of the prestigious “MOMI India – Genomics and Analysis Planning (Phase II)” project. Led by Prof. Arindam Maitra, the study utilizes innovative sequence-based technologies to risk-stratify mothers at risk of preterm birth within the GARBH-Ini cohort, representing a critical public health intervention funded by BIRAC and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).
About the Institute
NIBMG is India’s premier institute dedicated to understanding the genetic basis of health and disease. As a hub for the GARBH-Ini initiative, NIBMG bridges the gap between interdisciplinary clinical research and advanced genomic analysis. An SRF position here offers early-career researchers exposure to massive “Multi-Omics” datasets and the opportunity to contribute to a project of national and global significance in maternal and child health.
Key Responsibility
The project focuses on scaling up genomic analysis to identify molecular signatures that predict adverse birth outcomes.
- Advanced Genotyping: Conduct hands-on experiments using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and microarray-based genotyping.
- Statistical Genomics: Execute and interpret GWAS (Genome-Wide Association Studies) and EWAS (Epigenome-Wide Association Studies) to identify risk variants.
- Public Health Translation: Enable early risk stratification to facilitate timely referrals to higher-level care for pregnant women.
- Scientific Communication: Prepare technical reports, scientific interpretations, and high-impact manuscripts for international journals.

Securing the Senior Research Fellow position at NIBMG is a definitive career milestone for scientists aiming to lead in the field of clinical genomics. This project provides rare access to the GARBH-Ini cohort, one of the most comprehensive maternal-infant datasets in the world. If you have the required two years of experience and a background in GWAS or NGS, this is your opportunity to apply genomic science to a life-saving public health mission.
