Eligibility Criteria
- A minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PwD) or a 5.5 CPI (5.0 CPI for SC/ST/PwD) in a postgraduate degree program or a 4-year bachelor degree program in appropriate branches is required.
- MSc/MS/BS-MS/BS (4-year) (Biosciences / Biochemistry/ Zoology/ Botany / Biotechnology / or a closely related area)
- BTech/MTech/MPharm (Biotechnology / Bioinformatics / Biomaterials Biological Engineering Biochemical Engineering / Biomedical Engineering / Bioengineering or a closely related area)
- Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories are eligible for relaxations, as per norms, in the selection criteria. Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee shortlisting and/or admission.
Admission Categories
- Regular (RR): Full-time residential research candidate.
- Continuing Doctoral Programme (CDP): Candidates admitted under this category can directly join the Ph.D. programme. The residency requirement will be the time needed to complete the coursework offered offline. Candidates are encouraged to spend at least two weeks each semester at IITGN. Curricular requirements will be the same as a regular Ph.D. programme.
Financial Support
Students joining the Ph.D. program as regulars (RR) may be considered for the Institute Fellowship, subject to fund availability, based on the following norms:
- Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science with NET/GATE Qualification or Graduate Degree in Professional Courses (B.Tech/B.E.) with NET/GATE Qualification or Postgraduate Degree in Professional Courses (M.Tech/M.E. etc)
- BTech degree from a CFTI with CPI at least 8.0
- MSc/MA from IITs with CPI at least 8.0
- BS from IISc with CPI at least 6.4
- BS-MS from IISERs with CPI at least 8.0
- BS from IISERs with CPI at least 8.0
After successful completion of two years in a regular Ph.D. programme, candidates may be eligible for a fellowship of Rs. 42,000/- per month.
Admission Procedure
Admission is generally based on an interview supplemented by a written test if necessary. Candidates will be invited for a test/interview based on academic records and statements of purpose. Final selection is based on academic credentials, written tests, and interviews.
Applications can be considered any time of the year for exceptional candidates, processed through selection committees at regular intervals.
Application Procedure
Applications must be submitted online. Separate applications are needed for each discipline if applying for more than one. Save the application form after submission and furnish a hardcopy at the interview.
Application Fees: Rs. 150/- (SC/ST/PD Category), Rs. 300/- (Others). You do not need to send a hard copy of the application form.
