Student Summer Research Program Overview
The IISER Pune Summer Student Programme 2026 enables selected students to participate in short-term research projects under the mentorship of IISER Pune faculty members.
Research Areas
Research projects are offered across theory and experimental domains in:
- Biology
- Earth and Climate Science
- Interdisciplinary Sciences
Objective
To provide students with hands-on research exposure and help them assess the suitability of IISER Pune’s Integrated PhD and PhD programmes for long-term career planning.
Project Duration
4 to 8 weeks.
Internship Period
Between 15 May 2026 and 21 July 2026 (tentative dates).
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible Students
Applicants must be non-IISER Pune students currently enrolled in:
- 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of B.Sc., B.Tech., B.E., or equivalent
- 1st year of M.Sc., M.Tech., or equivalent
Minimum Academic Requirement
A minimum of 60% marks or equivalent overall grade is required.
Important Eligibility Notes
- This application is strictly for non-IISER Pune students.
- Students selected for IISER Pune through fellowship programmes such as IASc or JNCASR are not eligible through this route.
Project Selection Guidelines
- Applicants must browse the list of available projects, which will be visible on the registration portal from 02 February 2026.
- Only faculty members listed with available projects will supervise summer students.
- Applicants should review faculty webpages to ensure alignment of research interests and methodologies.
- Each project specifies required skills and background knowledge; students should apply only if suitably prepared.
- For technical clarifications, applicants may send a single email to the concerned faculty member.
- A maximum of two projects can be selected per applicant.

Selection Process & Results

Facilities & Support
Accommodation
Selected students will be provided free accommodation in the IISER Pune student hostel.
Financial Support
- No travel allowance will be provided.
- Hostel mess charges must be borne by the student (approximately ₹6,000 per month).
Certification
Student performance will be evaluated at the end of the project, and certificates will be issued upon request.
