About the Project
Led by Prof. Ravi Manjithaya, the Autophagy Lab at JNCASR explores the molecular mechanisms of cellular “self-eating.” The current project, “A novel host-directed therapy for the prevention of bacterial meningitis and meningoencephalitis by enhancing the enophagy-mediated clearance of pathogenic bacteria,” aims to identify strategies to enhance the brain’s innate ability to clear neuroinvasive bacteria, potentially offering a breakthrough in treating meningoencephalitis without relying solely on traditional antibiotics.
Vacancy Details
- Position: Project Research Scientist-II (Non-Medical).
- Remuneration: Rs. 67,000 + 30% HRA.
- No. of Positions: 01.
- Age Limit: Maximum 40 years (Relaxation possible for exceptional merit).
- Tenure: Requires a commitment of two years.
Eligibility & Technical Expertise
Essential Qualification:
- First Class Post Graduate Degree with three years of relevant experience OR a Ph.D.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Microbiology: Expertise in handling neuroinvasive pathogenic cultures.
- Molecular Biology: Proficiency in Western blot, immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
- Imaging: Experience with Confocal and Electron Microscopy.
- Cell Biology: Skills in primary neuronal culture and general cell culture.
- Animal Research: Proficiency in animal breeding, drug delivery in mice, and managing transgenic mouse models using Cre-lox recombination.
Key Responsibilities
- Infection Analysis: Analyzing the progression of bacterial infections in the brain and assessing the efficacy of experimental therapeutic molecules.
- Collaborative Research: Working as a team player within the Autophagy Lab and coordinating with external collaborators.
- Documentation: Maintaining detailed research records and preparing scientific reports for the MBGU unit.
