Eligibility

Applications are invited from Scientists/Clinicians/Clinical researchers, from public and private Academic Institutions/Universities/ R&D centers, engaged in scientific research work in the advertised areas. This grant advertisement lays emphasis on Biology and Management of A) Leukemia ; Hemoglobinopathies B) Other Cancers; Neurodegenerative disorders

THE RESEARCH PROPOSAL SHOULD COMPRISE OF THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS:

1. Title Page:

• Title of the Proposal (Title should be same as the one for which the Institutional Ethics Committee approval has been obtained.)
• Name of the Principal Investigator (PI)
• Names of the Co-Investigators (Co-I s)
• Affiliation(s) of the PI and Co-I s

2. Abstract: (≤300 words)

• A brief summary of the research project including the research question and expected outcomes.

3. Introduction: (≤500 words)

• Background and context of the research problem.
• Statement of the research problem or question.
• Justification for the importance or significance of the research.
• Objectives or aims of the study.

4. Literature Review: (≤1000 words)

• Review of relevant literature and previous research studies related to the topic.
• Identification of gaps in existing knowledge.
• Discussion of concepts, and findings that support the current research.
• Hypotheses, if applicable.
• Potential contributions to the field of study.

5. Methodology: (≤1000 words)

• Description of the research design and methods to be used.
• Explanation of the data collection techniques.
• Description of the sample population or participants.
• Details of data analysis methods and techniques.
• Methods used for data to be obtained from bioinformatic/AI/ML techniques
• Back up experimental approaches in case of some roadblocks.

6. Summary of preliminary data/results (≤500 words)

• For data obtained from bioinformatic /AI/ML analysis, preliminary experimental data should be included to support its translational potential

7. Anticipated output and impact section of the research. (≤500 words)

• An overview of the key milestones of your proposal should be provided along with the metrics of measurement of the same. The expected impact of your proposal on the research landscape and its translation into patient benefit, should be explained.

8. Timeline:

• Schedule of activities and milestones for the research project.
• Estimated duration for each phase of the research.

9. Team make-up (≤500 words)

• Your team make-up and the steps you will take to create links with researchers and other experts to develop the team.
• Why the proposed team is the best to address the challenge and how a team approach will support the achievement of the research objectives?
• Clearly inform the responsibility of the PI and each Co-I for all aspects of the project.

The last page of the project proposal submitted for consideration should be signed by the PI, Co-PI and all Co-I’s. Incomplete projects will not be accepted.

10. Budget: (Year wise for three years)

• Breakdown of the anticipated expenses associated with the research: Non-recurring, that is, equipment cost (small equipment, costing not more than 15% of overall budget); Recurring expenses such as for chemicals & consumables and outsourcing jobs; manpower; travel; and for Contingency (not more than 5 % of the overall budget).

• Budget heads:

The budget should outline the cost clearly against the following line items :

i. Manpower: Staff qualifications should be in accordance with the PI’s institutional guidelines, and salaries should also be budgeted as per the institution guidelines. The approved guidelines should be submitted along with the LTMT proposal
ii. Equipments (small equipment, costing not more than 15% of overall budget)
iii. Consumables
iv. Contingency (not more than 5% of the overall budget)
v. Overhead @ 10% of total budget

• Justification for each budget line item should be provided.
• Potential other sources of funding or resources, if any should be indicated.

11. References:

• List all references cited within the proposal with links to the text.

METHOD OF APPLICATION and REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSION:

  1. Online application may be submitted on www.ladytatatrust.tatatrusts.org, together with all supporting documents, as detailed in the application. The application should be signed by the PI and all Co-Investigators. It should be forwarded through the Head of the Institution of the Principal Investigator.
  2. The online application should be submitted latest by 28th February 2026. The Indian Scientific Advisory Committee of the Trust will scrutinize the application and inform the Principal Investigator (PI) whose project has been shortlisted. The PI will be invited to present his/her project on a scheduled date which will be intimated to the PI well in advance.
  3. The quantum of grant to be sanctioned depends on the topic of research, duration of the research and the requirements for conducting the research, as reviewed and recommended by the Indian Scientific Advisory Committee of the Trust. In this round, the Trust will consider only projects having a budget not exceeding Rs 100 lakhs per project proposal for all categories, namely, Biology and Management of A) Leukemia; Hemoglobinopathies B) Other Cancers; Neurodegenerative disorders.
  4. The Research Project should not exceed a duration of three years in the first instance.
  5. The project proposal should have the prior approval of the Institutional Ethics Committee at the time of submission. This is a mandatory requirement in the absence of which the project may not be considered. The title of the project submitted should match with the title of the IEC approval letter.
  6. After submission of the project online, no changes to the same will be accepted.
  7. For projects involving investigators from multiple institutions, the Trust will consider only the Principal Investigator from the institution through which the project is submitted as the point of contact for all administrative and financial purposes.
  8. Consumables and equipment budget should clearly indicate the items of expenditure with justification.
  9. Contingency budgets should not exceed 5 % of the overall budget.
  10. Grant should be accepted within 15 days of the receipt of the intimation.
  11. A Principal Investigator with an ongoing project funded by LTMT is not eligible to apply for a new project. If the ongoing project is in its final year, the PI must submit the final report and utilisation certificate (UC) before applying for a new project to LTMT.

Check list for IRG submission.

  1. Project proposal should include the following:
    a) Budget sheet with yearly fund requirements. (yearly total should be given with grand total)
    b) Signatures of PI and all Co-I’s on the last page of project proposal.
    c) Team makeup.

  2. Director’s approval or forwarding letter with signature on Institutional letter head with stamp and date.

  3. Project proposal should be in PDF and all pages should be numbered.

  4. Final IEC approval, provisional will not be considered. IEC approval should have names of members of IEC and their affiliation.

  5. The IEC approval should be for the project with the Title submitted to LTMT for funding.

  6. CV of Principal Investigator. The PI should include details of any ongoing projects including the project title, start and end dates, and funding agency in their LTMT application
