Job Summary
The Microbiology Technician will support the diagnostic microbiology operations. The candidate will be responsible for performing routine laboratory tests, handling samples, and maintaining high standards of biosafety and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform sample receipt, labeling, processing, and storage.
- Conduct routine microbiological testing (culture, staining, identification, susceptibility testing).
- Prepare, maintain, and sterilize media, reagents, and laboratory equipment.
- Handle clinical specimens in accordance with biosafety and infection control guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports in accordance with laboratory protocols.
- Calibrate, clean, and monitor laboratory instruments to ensure optimal performance.
- Follow quality control and quality assurance procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Biosafety Level practices (BSL-2/BSL-3 depending on workflow).
- Assist senior microbiologists in specialized assays as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
Skills & Qualifications:
- B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in clinical microbiology or diagnostic laboratory preferred.
- Familiarity with human pathogens and diagnostic microbiology workflows.
- Strong understanding of biosafety levels and infection control practices.
- Proficiency in laboratory documentation and data entry.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
