Position Details
- Position: Junior Research Fellow (JRF)
- Location: IIT Kanpur, Kanpur, India
- Tenure: 1.5 years
- Project Title: “Liquid biopsy-based diagnostics for circulating biomarkers in prostate cancer”
- Emoluments (Fellowship): Rs. 37,000/- per month.
- Age relaxation: The upper age limit is relaxable up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to scheduled castes/tribes/OBC, women, and physically handicapped candidates.
Key Responsibilities
The candidate is required to manage end-to-end wet lab and data analysis activities for the
project:- Sample Handling: Collection and processing of blood and urine samples for liquid biopsy analysis.
- Molecular Techniques: Execution of key molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR/qPCR/RT-PCR, Gel electrophoresis, ELISA, and western blotting.
- Cell & Animal Models: Handling cell culture for prostate cancer cell lines; hands-on experience with slight animal handling and in vivo procedures (tumor implantation, drug administration).
- Data Analysis: Perform fundamental data analysis and interpretation of biomarker results; use statistical and bioinformatics tools (R, Python, GraphPad) for data visualization.
Essential Qualifications and Expertise

Essential Qualification (Meet One Criterion)
- NET/GATE Route: B.S. (4 years programme)/Integrated BS-MS/MSc/BE/BTech or equivalent degree, with 55% marks AND passing of NET/GATE test. OR
- Experience Route: M.Sc., BE, BTech, or equivalent degree, AND at least two years of post-M.Sc. research experience (evidenced by published papers in standard refereed journals). OR
- Advanced Degrees: ME, MTech, or equivalent degree in Engineering/Technology; OR equivalent; OR Doctorate (PhD/MD/MS/MDS).
Desirable Competencies
- Prior exposure to working with clinical samples or cancer-related research.
- Experience with structural biology or molecular biology (implied by required skills).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team; strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
