About the Role:
KBCols Sciences Pvt. Ltd. is seeking talented Bioprocess Engineers / Fermentation Specialists to join our team in Pune. The ideal candidate will execute and optimize microbial fermentation processes for pigment and colorant production, working across both upstream and downstream operations at lab and pilot scale.
Key Responsibilities:
• Execute and optimize microbial fermentation processes at lab and pilot scale (300 L, 500 L) for pigment and colorant production
• Plan and manage upstream operations including media preparation, inoculum development, and bioreactor operation
• Monitor and control fermentation parameters (pH, DO, temperature, agitation, biomass, yield) and maintain detailed batch records
• Perform downstream processing steps such as extraction, filtration, centrifugation, and purification of microbial pigments
• Troubleshoot and optimize USP & DSP bottlenecks to improve process efficiency and yield
• Ensure aseptic handling and bioprocess safety across all operations
• Collaborate with R&D, QC, and Production teams for data sharing, process scale-up, and technology transfer
• Support documentation, SOP writing, and preparation of technical reports for internal and external partners
Qualification Requirements:
• M.Tech in Biotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, or related fields
• MSc in Biotechnology, Microbiology, or related fields
• Strong understanding of microbial fermentation, kinetics, and process optimization
• Hands-on experience with bioreactors, fermenters, filtration systems, and purification equipment (preferred)
• Familiarity with downstream techniques like solid–liquid separation, solvent extraction, membrane filtration, or chromatography
• Good analytical abilities with exposure to HPLC, spectrophotometry, and biochemical assays
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for cross-functional collaboration
