$3M Pre-Series A Boost for CRISPR Innovator CrisprBits – A Biotech Startup
Indian biotech startup CrisprBits has just raised US$3 million in a Pre-Series A funding round. This milestone move could shape the future of CRISPR-powered diagnostics, gene editing, and sustainable biotechnology. The round was led by Spectrum Impact, the family office of Rajendra Gogri (Chairman & MD of Aarti Industries), with participation from early backers including the VJ Technologies Group and the promoter family of HBL Engineering Ltd. Existing supporters such as C‑CAMP (Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms) and the startup’s founders also contributed to the round.
What CrisprBits plans to do with the money
The fresh capital will help the company scale the commercialisation of its flagship diagnostics platform, PathCrisp. Using CRISPR-based molecular diagnostics, this Biotech Startup aims to deliver affordable and rapid tests for human health conditions, food-safety screening, and even animal health monitoring. Initial diagnostics being developed under this plan include tests for sickle cell disease, typhoid, and antimicrobial resistance.
In addition to diagnostics, the funding will also support expansion of manufacturing capacity, helping bring the tests to larger volumes and broader geographies. The company says it has set targets to enter Africa and Latin America over the next six months and plans to launch its diagnostic offerings.
Who is CrisprBits?
CrisprBits is a Biotech Startup, founded by a group of biotech and engineering professionals, including alumni of BITS Pilani, and operates out of a 7,300-square-foot CRISPR R&D and prototype development facility in Bengaluru.
Why this Matters
The $3 million infusion comes at a time when CRISPR, once thought of purely as a lab tool, is rapidly going commercial. With demand rising for fast, affordable diagnostics (especially in resource-limited settings), the timing could not be better for a company like CrisprBits. If they succeed, they could help make CRISPR-based testing more accessible and push forward innovations in sustainable biotech, including eco-friendly biofuels.
For India’s biotech ecosystem, this Biotech Startup marks another sign that homegrown firms are ready to move from research labs into real-world impact across health, food safety, environment, and energy.
As CrisprBits ramps up manufacturing and looks outward to global markets, the next few months will be crucial for translating ambitious science into accessible solutions that could make a real difference.
