BRIC-National Agri-Food and Biomanufacturing Institute (BRIC-NABI) is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. BRIC-NABI aims at catalysing the transformation of the Agri-food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, BRIC-NABI is involved in research activities for Bio-fortification, the development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions for quality food and nutrition, and the development of evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition. The food and nutritional Biotechnology division at BRIC-NABI requires the following research personnel purely on a temporary basis.

POST I

1. Project Title: “Development and Characterization of colored cereals (ICAR-CRP Biofortification)” (GAP-73)

Principle Investigator: Dr. Monika Garg, Scientist-F

Positions: Senior Research Fellow (One position)

Duration: Appointment is co-terminus with the project.

Essential Qualification:

  1. Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following:

  2. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR-UGC-NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship), GATE and GPAT

  3. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc.

  4. 2 year prior experience as JRF.

Desired Experience: Experience in working with plant genetics/breeding/biochemistry. Basic understanding of data analysis tools and other bioinformatics tools will be a plus.

Responsibilities: Selected candidate will work on genetics and breeding for colored wheat and biochemical analysis of anthocyanin and antioxidants in colored wheat and rice. Candidate will also be responsible to manage day-to-day activities for the successful execution of the project, designing of the experiments, data analysis, manuscript writing and progress report preparation.

Emoluments: Rs. 42,000/- per month (plus HRA, if hostel accommodation is not available in NABI) (GOI OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26/6/2023).

2. Project Title: “Smart Protein Innovation for Alternative Protein Development (under project entitled BRIC-NABI Biomanufacturing Center “Agri-Food Bio-Mug” (GAP-85)”

Principle Investigator: Dr. Shrikant Mantri, Scientist-F

Positions: Research Associate I (One position)

Duration: The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project (initially for one year, extendable based on performance and project continuation up to 2 years).

Essential Qualifications: Ph.D in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Biotechnology, or related field. Or M.Tech/M.Sc. in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology/Computer Science/Statistics with three years of relevant research experience and at least one research paper in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of protein structure, molecular biology, and sequence analysis.

  • Proficiency with computational tools such as:

    • Protein modeling (e.g., Rosetta, AlphaFold, Modeller)

    • Molecular dynamics (e.g., GROMACS, AMBER)

    • Sequence analysis (e.g., BLAST, HMMER, Clustal Omega)

Job Description: The Research Associate – Computational Biology will be a key team member in a cutting-edge project aimed at developing alternative proteins for sustainable food systems. The role focuses on the computational design and analysis of novel plant-based and fermentation-derived proteins with meat, dairy, egg, and poultry-like textures and functionalities. The candidate will work on de novo protein design, structural modeling, molecular dynamics, and sequence optimization. The associate will also contribute to AI/ML-driven predictive tools for protein function and stability, as well as computational screening of proteins for nutritional profiles and digestibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use bioinformatics and AI tools to design de novo proteins with tailored characteristics (e.g., digestibility, amino acid completeness).

  • Model and simulate protein structures to assess folding, stability, solubility, and interaction with other biomolecules.

  • Collaborate with wet-lab teams to validate in silico predictions and refine design models based on experimental feedback.

  • Analyze large-scale genomic and proteomic data from plant and microbial sources to identify high-value protein candidates.

  • Employ machine learning algorithms for protein sequence optimization and functional annotation.

  • Perform comparative modeling and structure-function prediction of native and engineered proteins (e.g., albumen, casein, collagen).

Positions: Senior Project Associate (SPA) – One position

Duration: 3 Years. The Senior Project Associate is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 3 years or the last date of the project, whichever is earlier.

Essential Qualification:

1st Class Master’s degree in Microbiology /Biotechnology / Life Sciences from a recognized university or equivalent with 4 years of research experience in research and development in industrial or academic institutes or science and technology organisations and scientific activity and services. OR Doctoral Degree in Microbiology /Biotechnology / Life Sciences from a recognized university or equivalent.

Desirable qualifications:

  1. Experience in microbial fermentation and development of bioactive compounds enriched dairy and/or non-dairy foods using defined microbial strains.

  2. Experience in omics analysis, including metabolomics and peptidomics, with meta-omics.

Job profile:

  1. The SPA will work on the development of functional chhurpi production, evaluation of functional effects along with identification of bioactive compounds.

  2. The SPA will also work on multi-omics approach, in silico and in vitro methods for identification of microbial strains, bioactive compounds and validation of functional properties.

  3. The SPA will work on in-depth omics analyses of traditional fermented churpi, focusing on metagenomic and metabolomic analysis, which includes comprehensive profiling of the microbial communities and metabolic profiling.

Emoluments: The Senior Project Associate will be hired with the emoluments of Rs. 42,000/- + 18% HRA/Hostel.

Desirable qualifications:

  1. Candidates having (a) National eligibility tests-CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE OR (b) National level examinations conducted by central government Departments and their agencies and institutes will be preferred.

  2. Experience in microbial fermentation and development of bioactive compounds enriched dairy and/or non-dairy foods using defined microbial strains.

Job profile:

  1. The PA-I will work on screening of microbial strains and formulating microbial consortium for controlled chhurpi production having multifunctional properties.

  2. The PA-I will also work in synergy with other collaborators in assessing the bioactivity of the fermented food products.

Emoluments: The PA – I with NET/GATE will be hired with the emoluments of 31000 + 18% HRA/Hostel for 1st and 2nd Year, 35000 + 18% HRA/Hostel for 3rd Year; for PA- I without NET/GATE will be hired with emoluments of 25000 + 18% HRA/Hostel for 1st and 2nd Year, 28000 + 18% HRA/Hostel for 3rd Year.

5. Project Title: “Reducing NOx levels in the atmosphere to tackle air pollution via innovative biofilters using plants and beneficial microbes.” (GAP-98)

Duration: The research associate is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 2 years or the last date of the project, whichever is earlier.

Essential Qualification: PhD in Biotechnology/Microbiology/Life Science/Biochemical Engineering etc.

Desirable Experience: Hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques, gene editing, microbial fermentation, biofilter design, and methods for NOx detection and scavenging.

Job profile: The Research Associate will be responsible for bioreactor-based cultivation of bacterial strains to assess their NOx scavenging potential, as well as designing and testing a biofilter system for NOx removal from polluted air.

Desirable: Prior theoretical/practical understanding of microbial cultivation (bacteria and yeast), bioreactor culture and genetic engineering would be expected from the candidate.

Positions: Junior Research Fellow (One position)

Duration: One Year, extendable on annual basis for subsequent years subject to satisfactory progress, institutional needs and financial provisions. Duration of Project 3 years (2024-2027).

Essential Qualification:

(i) Master’s degree from a recognized University/Institute: M.Sc. (Chemistry/Physical Chemistry/Electrochemistry/Material Chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry)/Biochemistry/Nanotechnology/Nanoscience or M.E./M.Tech. (Chemical Engineering/Nanotechnology) or relevant discipline to the project title, and;
(ii) NET/GATE/any other relevant/equivalent nature of national level test qualified.

Desired Experience: Catalyst synthesis, chemical catalysis.

Emoluments: Rs. 37,000/- per month + HRA (as admissible or Hostel facility, if available).

Age limit: 28 Years for Junior Research Fellow.

  2. Incomplete application forms and applications that are not in proper format may be summarily rejected.
  3. The applications should be submitted strictly as per the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the NABI website.
  4. Candidates applying for more than one post can give their preference by writing different designations in the same application form.
  5. Candidates should ensure that information mentioned in the application form is accurate. Once the application form is submitted no further request regarding any changes/information in the application form will be considered.
  6. The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 30.10.2025.
