About The Institute

The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, is a South Indian centre of the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) under the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India. SACON conducts research, training, and policy development in the fields of ornithology and natural history.

Available Research Positions

1. Senior Project Manager – Bird/Wildlife Hazard Mitigation

  • Positions: 1
  • Tenure: 1 year (extendable)
  • Qualification: Ph.D. in life/environmental sciences with 5+ years’ post‑PhD experience in bird/wildlife hazard mitigation
  • Salary: ₹1,25,000/month (consolidated)
  • Age Limit: 45 years
  • Responsibilities: Coordinate and implement bird hazard mitigation projects across airports, liaise with airport authorities, analyze field data, and support project investigators.

2. Senior Project Associate – Bird/Wildlife Hazard Mitigation

  • Positions: 1
  • Tenure: 1 year (extendable)
  • Qualification: M.Sc. in life/environmental sciences with 4+ years’ experience
  • Salary: ₹57,000 + HRA
  • Age Limit: 40 years
  • Responsibilities: Conduct fieldwork, collect hazard data in airport precincts, liaise with stakeholders, and assist in reporting and data analysis.

3. Project Associate-II – Bird/Wildlife Hazard Mitigation

  • Positions: 1
  • Tenure: 1 year (extendable)
  • Qualification: M.Sc. in life/environmental sciences with 2+ years’ experience
  • Salary: ₹42,000 + HRA (NET/GATE qualified) or ₹33,000 + HRA (non‑NET/GATE)
  • Age Limit: 35 years
  • Responsibilities: Conducting field surveys, collecting data in airports, coordinating with stakeholders, and assisting with reporting.

4. Project Associate-I – Coconut Crab Conservation, Nicobar Islands

  • Positions: 1
  • Tenure: Till 31 March 2026 (extendable)
  • Qualification: M.Sc. in life/environmental sciences
  • Salary: ₹37,000 + HRA (NET/GATE qualified) or ₹30,000 + HRA (non‑NET/GATE)
  • Age Limit: 35 years
  • Responsibilities: Field studies on Coconut Crab ecology, data collection, community engagement, and conservation planning.

5. Project Associate-I – Bird Diversity & Pitti Wildlife Sanctuary

  • Positions: 1
  • Tenure: 1 year (extendable)
  • Qualification: M.Sc. in life/environmental sciences
  • Salary: ₹37,000 + HRA (NET/GATE qualified) or ₹30,000 + HRA (non‑NET/GATE)
  • Age Limit: 35 years
  • Responsibilities: Field research on bird diversity, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.

6. Project Associate-I – Nicobar Megapode Conservation

  • Positions: 1
  • Tenure: Till 31 March 2026 (extendable)
  • Qualification: M.Sc. in life/environmental sciences
  • Salary: ₹37,000 + HRA (NET/GATE qualified) or ₹30,000 + HRA (non‑NET/GATE)
  • Age Limit: 35 years
  • Responsibilities: Species ecology studies, field surveys, data analysis, community interaction, and conservation plan development.

About the Projects

These positions involve work in bird and wildlife hazard mitigation, island ecology, biodiversity studies, and conservation planning in diverse and challenging environments, including airports, the Nicobar Archipelago, and the Lakshadweep Islands. Candidates will have opportunities in the Wildlife Biology area to conduct field surveys, interact with local communities, work closely with forest departments, and contribute to national conservation efforts.
