Biological Sciences PhD Program – Overview
The Biological Sciences PhD Program (Winter 2025-26) is open for Indian citizens who meet the eligibility criteria. The program emphasizes hands-on research and training in advanced life sciences areas. Candidates will be selected through a rigorous process based on their academic record, performance in national-level examinations, and interviews.
Eligibility For Biological Sciences PhD Program
- Educational Qualification:
- Master’s or M.Tech/M.Pharm in Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Veterinary Sciences, Computer Sciences, Bioinformatics, or Biotechnology with ≥55% marks or equivalent GPA.
- Candidates with a Master’s in Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics who are interested in biological research are also encouraged to apply.
- 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree holders with ≥75% marks or equivalent grade are eligible.
- National-Level Examination Requirement:
- Candidates must have qualified for at least one of the following: CSIR-UGC-NET, GATE, GPAT, DBT-BET, ICMR, JGEEBILS-2025.
- Students with only an INSPIRE Doctoral Fellowship are not eligible without qualifying for the above examinations.
Biological Sciences PhD Program – Fellowship
- Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): ₹37,000/- per month for the first two years.
- Senior Research Fellowship (SRF): ₹42,000/- per month for up to three years, subject to academic performance.
- Students with external fellowships (e.g., CSIR, UGC) will receive stipends in accordance with the funding agency’s rules.

Selection Procedure
- Candidates are shortlisted based on their academic record and performance in national-level exams.
- Shortlisted candidates will be called for Biological Sciences PhD Program interviews and, if necessary, a written test.
- The final selection is based on an individual’s academic record and performance during the selection process.
- Travel reimbursement for Tests/Interviews is provided at the second-sleeper class railway fare rate.
