The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune is a premier institute dedicated to research and teaching in the basic sciences. It was established in 2006 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (renamed Ministry of Education in August 2020). In 2012, IISER Pune was declared as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament.
Institute invites applications from Indian nationals for the following post purely on temporary and contractual basis:
Name of the Post: Project Associate-I / Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Title of the Project: “Molecular mechanisms contributing to differential loading of cohesin complexes in the genome”.

Minimum Educational Qualification: M.Sc. / B. Tech in Life Sciences / Biotechnology / Bioengineering with minimum 70% marks / equivalent grade. Preferably qualified national level exam (like: NET / GATE). Additional percentage cut-off will be applied during the screening process, if needed.
Preference: Candidates having following will be preferred –
- Prior experience in genetics, molecular, cell biology and biochemistry techniques is a must.
- Previous work experience in working with yeasts will be highly preferred.
- Wet lab experience during Master’s thesis is a must.
- Experience of having handled/completed multiple independent projects.
- Prior experience in projects related to DNA repair, epigenetics and chromosomal biology.
Job Requirement:
Incumbent is expected to do following:• Assist in ongoing experiments using yeast as a model to perform genetic screens and assays.
• Help establish the mammalian cell culturing system in the laboratory along with the PI.
• Conduct research investigating the molecular mechanisms of how cohesin complexes are loaded on the chromosomes in both yeast and human cancer cells.
Tenure of the Appointment: For a period of one year extendable for further period subject to continuation of the project and satisfactory performance of the incumbent.
Consolidated Emoluments per month:
- Rs. 30,000/- + 24% House Rent Allowance
- Rs. 37,000/- + 24% House Rent Allowance
Applicant should have valid CSIR-NET (Life Sciences) / GATE (Life Sciences) / CSIR-JRF / DBT-JRF / any other National Level Test conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies OR equivalent scorecard.
Age as on last date of application:
PA-I – Not more than 35 years
JRF – Not more than 28 years
Age relaxation commensurate with educational qualification/s and/or experience/s of the applicant may be considered for candidates having qualification and experience higher than the advertised with the prior approval of the competent authority.
