Walk-in/Online Interview for the temporary Position of Research Associate-I (01) and Junior Research Fellow (01).

National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. NABI aims at catalysing the transformation of the Agri-food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, NABI is involved in research activities for Bio-fortification, the development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions for quality food and nutrition, and the development of evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition. The food and nutritional Biotechnology division at NABI requires the following research personnel purely on a temporary basis. Bioinformatics Research Jobs at NABI.

1. Project Title: “Microbial Solutions for Punjab’s Fertilizer Crisis: Enhancing Soil Ecology and Crop Yields.” (GAP-93)

Principal Investigator: Dr. Shrikant S. Mantri, Scientist-F

Positions: Research Associate–I (One position)

Duration: The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project (initially for one year, extendable based on performance and project continuation up to 3 years).

Essential Qualification:

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Biotechnology, or Life Sciences with computational experience.
OR
• M.Tech/M.Sc. in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology/Computer Science/Statistics with three years of relevant research experience and at least one research paper in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.

Job Description: The Research Associate (RA) will contribute to the computational biology objectives of the project by performing integrative bioinformatics analysis of metagenomic data. The selected candidate will be primarily supervised by Dr Shrikant Mantri, but may be involved in collaborative work under the guidance of other PIs associated with the project.

The RA will be involved in:

● Analysing high-throughput sequencing data (amplicon and whole-genome shotgun)
● Taxonomic profiling and pattern analysis
● Assembly, binning, and annotation of Metagenome-Assembled Genomes (MAGs)
● Biosynthetic Gene Cluster (BGC) analysis
● Functional annotation and metabolic pathway reconstruction
● Applying machine learning and AI algorithms for integrative meta-analysis
● Supporting the creation of a curated database of MAGs and BGCs
● Assisting in preparation of research publications, reports, and presentations, project and lab management
● Assist the project team in wet-lab project work

Strong Experience in:

· Metagenomic data analysis
· Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows and pipelines
· Linux/Unix command-line operations and scripting (Python/Perl/Bash)
· R or Python for statistical data analysis and visualization
· High Performance Computing

Desired Qualifications:

● Prior experience in handling large-scale metagenomic or microbial datasets
● Familiarity with genome binning and MAG quality assessment
● Expertise in network analysis and co-occurrence-based ecological modelling
● Understanding of soil or agricultural microbiome research
● Working knowledge of high-performance computing clusters
● Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in the relevant domain
● Experience with database creation and curation
● Prior experience in microbiology, genomics and metagenomics wet-lab work

Emoluments: As per DBT norms Rs. 58,000/- plus HRA per month (as applicable for Research Associate I) (As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2023)

Age limit: 40 years for RA

2. Project Title: “Investigating the genetic basis of variation in yield and grain nutrient profile in rice under elevated day and night temperature.” (GAP-78)

Principal Investigator: Dr. Rajeev Nayan Bahuguna, Scientist-D

Positions: Junior Research Fellow (One position)

Duration: The appointment will be initially for one year as JRF. Further up-gradation from JRF to SRF will be on the basis of the submission of a progress report and further assessment.

Essential Qualification: Postgraduate degree in Basic Science or Graduate/Postgraduate in the professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following:
a) Scholars are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE.
b) The selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc.

Desirable Experience: Multi-Omics analysis, gene expression (qRT-PCR).

Emoluments: Rs. 37,000/- per month Plus HRA (Emoluments and eligibility As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-60/2022, dated 26th June, 2023)

Age limit: 28 years (Relaxation is admissible in the case of SC/ST/OBC/PD and women candidates as per GOI instructions)

Application Procedure & Other Conditions

  1. All interested candidates may appear for Walk-In-Interview at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute located at Knowledge City, Sector-81, Mohali, Punjab-140306, on 25.09.2025 at 09:00 A.M. along with the duly filled application form available on the website www.nabi.res.in. (Phone No. 0172-5221245)
  2. Incomplete application forms and applications that are not in proper format may be summarily rejected.
  3. The applications should be submitted strictly as per the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the NABI website.
  4. Candidates applying for more than one post can give their preference by writing different designations in the same application form.
  5. Candidates should ensure that information mentioned in the application form is accurate. Once the application form is submitted no further request regarding any changes/information in the application form will be considered.
  6. The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 25.09.2025.
  7. The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed.
  8. All the candidates are requested to appear for a Walk-In interview with an application form, experience certificates, publications, and original degree certificates and transcripts.
  9. Original mark sheets, certificates, award/fellowship, etc must be accomplished for verification at the time of the interview and attach one set of attested copies of the documents with the application form.
  10. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
  11. Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to disqualification of the candidate(s).
  12. Candidates should strictly adhere to guidelines issued by World Health Organization and Centre Govt/State Govt on Covid-19.
  13. In the event of special circumstances, candidates may request the project investigator (via email) to conduct their interviews online. Such requests must be submitted well in advance, preferably at least one week prior to the scheduled interview date. However, the final decision will be taken by the selection committee to ascertain the special circumstances and allow the candidate(s) for an online interview. The Institute reserves the right to conduct the interview in online/offline mode.
  14. Interview results will be published on the NABI website.

Note: Permission for online interview may be sought from the PI at least one week prior to the interview date and a valid reason must be given for the same.
