Applications from Indian nationals are invited for the unreserved temporary posts of Senior/Junior Research Fellow (4), Young Professional-II (1) and Project Assistant (1) to contribute to cutting-edge research in genome editing and advancing climate-resilient agriculture under various projects at Division of Plant Physiology, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.
Project 1:
ICAR project – “Enhancing climate resilience and ensuring food security with genome editing tools” (Project Code 12-197 B/C) – YP-II-1 Post and SRF-1 PostProject 2: National Agriculture Science Fund, ICAR project – “CRISPR Crop Network: Targeted improvement of stress tolerance, nutritional quality and yield of crops by using genome editing” – SRF/JRF-3 Posts
Project 3: DBT-NER-BPMC Project – “Genome editing and Genetic engineering for improvement in aroma, drought tolerance and yield of Kala Joha and Manipur Black Rice” (DBT Code 24-858) – PA-1 Post
Project 4: ICAR project – “Towards understanding the C3-C4 intermediate pathway in Poaceae and functionality of C4 genes in rice” – SRF-1 Post

After screening the applications, only shortlisted candidates shall be called for online interview to be held in the last week of August 2025. Any change in the Interview date will be intimated to the shortlisted candidates or placed in IARI website. The positions are unreserved, temporary and co-terminus with the project. The institution reserves the right to modify the number of vacancies.

Age limit: 35 years for men; 40 years for women. Relaxation in upper age limit to relevant categories as per GoI rules. Essential Qualification: Master’s degree in relevant subjects (Plant Biotechnology/ Plant Physiology/ Plant Biochemistry/ Life sciences/ Microbiology) with 4 years / 5 years of Bachelor’s degree (1st Division). Candidates having graduate degree in basic Sciences with 3 years of Bachelor’s degree and 2 years Master’s degree should have NET/GATE/ICAR-SRF (PhD entrance) qualification and 2 years of research experience. Candidates having B. Tech with M. Tech 5 year (degree must have it mentioned as B. Tech and M. Tech) as mentioned in OM No Edn./6/27/2014/HRD dated 13th July, 2015, OM No Agril. Edn. 6/27/2014-HRD 9th October, 2015 of the Council and OM SR/S9/Z09/2018 of DST dated, 30th January 2019. Desirable Qualification: Experience in basic plant physiology, biochemistry and molecular techniques (nucleic acid isolation, PCR, plasmid isolation, restriction, ligation, molecular marker etc), molecular cloning and recombinant vector development, genetic transformation of crops (rice, mustard, millets, maize etc), particle gun mediated transformation of plants, plant tissue culture, development and analysis of transgenic plants, genome editing of plants, scientific writing; as evident from publications. |

Age limit: 21 – 45 years, as on date of interview. Relaxation in upper age limit to relevant categories as per GoI rules. Essential: Master’s degree in relevant subjects (Plant Biotechnology/ Plant Physiology/ Plant Biochemistry/ Life sciences/ Microbiology) with 4 years / 5 years of Bachelor’s degree (with 1st Division or 60% marks or equivalent overall grade point average). Desirable: Experience of working with rice genome editing, guide RNA designing and cloning, plant tissue culture, rice transformation, Molecular analysis of transgenic plants. |

Age limit: 35 years for men; 40 years for women. Relaxation in upper age limit to relevant categories as per GoI rules. Essential: Bachelor’s degree in relevant subjects (Plant Biotechnology/ Plant Physiology/ Plant Biochemistry/ Life sciences/ Microbiology) or equivalent qualification required. Desirable Qualifications: Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation of rice, genome editing of plants, molecular cloning, DNA isolation, RNA isolation. |
HRA (House Rent Allowance) will be given as per existing Central Government rates applicable in various cities/locations where SRF/JRF/YP-II/PA are working in ICAR/DBT-funded projects.
- The engagement will be purely on contractual basis, time bound, non-regular & co-terminus with the project and the incumbent shall not have any claim for regular appointment under ICAR or any further contractual engagement on termination of the project. The selected candidate shall have no legal right to claim regularization by absorption or otherwise or any further continued engagement on termination of the project.
- The tenure of engagement will be initially for a period upto 6 months from the date of engagement or term of the project, whichever is earlier. The services of the incumbent shall stand terminated automatically on expiry of the period given in the offer letter. Subject to extension of term of project, the engagement may be further extended as decided by the competent authority subject to satisfactory performance of the candidate and work requirement. During the period of engagement, if the performance is non-satisfactory, the incumbent could be terminated from the position with one-month notice.
- The candidates shall be shortlisted based on eligibility criteria, educational performance and/or relevant research experience, if applicable. Only, shortlisted candidates shall be informed about the screening results via email and shall be invited to attend online/in-person interview at Div. of Plant Physiology, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi. The candidates are advised to regularly check their email for updates. No TA/DA shall be paid to attend the interview. The final result of the interview shall be published in IARI website (https://iari.res.in) under the heading News > Contractual Jobs > View Results.
- The original documents of the selected/ wait listed candidates shall be checked in person, before the issue of the offer letter.
- Candidates already engaged in employment in government/PSU/autonomous bodies etc. are required to furnish No Objection Certificate from the existing employer. Candidates currently pursuing PhD degree are required to furnish No Objection Certificate from the HoD/Dean/Registrar of the university.
- Concealing of facts or canvassing in any form shall lead to disqualification of the candidature and/or termination of engagement even after appointment. The decision of Joint Director (Research), ICAR-IARI, New Delhi will be final and binding in all respects.
