Job Purpose/Overview:
To ensure that dry pet food products leaving the factory conform to MARS specifications by assuring raw material quality and monitoring process parameters through microbiological testing. The

Microbiologist supports the Quality Control Lab Manager in executing timely test plans, following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and optimizing costs. The role also involves participating in the design and implementation of Food Safety Quality Management Systems (HACCP) and Pre-requisite Programs (PRPs).

Job Responsibilities

1. Plant Responsibilities:

• Conduct microbiological analysis of incoming raw materials and finished products as per the test plan for Microbiology job.

• Perform routine tests as per Mars Micro Verification standards.

• Communicate product status for release/hold/rework/reject decisions.

• Ensure personal and plant hygiene, cleaning, and sanitation per GMP standards.

• Calibrate laboratory equipment as per schedule.

• Learn and implement new testing methods.

• Track and report microbiological performance using trend charts.

• Maintain accurate test data and records for Microbiology job.

• Perform Environmental Monitoring (swab samples, air, and water testing).

2. Suppliers Interface:

• Monitor supplier performance regarding raw material quality and contamination.

• Communicate material issues to the supply chain.

• Analyze shelf-life, market, and concern samples.

• Coordinate with external labs for testing and records.

3. Support Quality & Food Safety Systems:

• Assist in HACCP implementation and sanitation for MSc Btech Microbiology Job.

• Share analysis for Material Risk Assessments (MRAs).

• Support CCP/OPRP verifications through microbiological sample testing.

• Conduct GMP verifications at the site for Microbiology job.

4. Other Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate GLP and support cost optimization.

• Train associates on Food Safety Management, hygiene, and sanitation.

• Ensure implementation of Mars QMP and GMP standards.

• Comply with Mars Global SES and local legislation.

• Understand and manage risks, attend training, and report incidents.

• Collaborate with other Microbiologists on lab deliverables and vendor interactions.

Job Specifications/Qualifications

Education: M.Sc. in Microbiology or B.Tech with Microbiology knowledge.

Experience: 3–4 years in a microbiology lab within the food or pharma industry.
