ABOUT JAM 2026
The Joint Admission test for Masters (JAM) is conducted to provide admissions to (i) M.Sc., (ii) M.Sc. (Tech.), (iii) MS (Research), (iv) M.Sc. M.Tech. Dual Degree, (v) Joint M.Sc. – Ph.D., and (vi) M.Sc.- Ph.D. Dual Degree, at the IITs for taking up science as a career option for the students.
It is a Computer Based Test in SEVEN Test Papers at the undergraduate level.
❖ Test Papers consists of (i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), (ii) Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and (iii) Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions.
Candidates may appear in ONE or TWO Test Papers. For two test papers, the second paper must be carefully selected to avoid session clash.
❖ Candidates in merit list are eligible for admission to around 3000 seats in various postgraduate programmes at IITs.
WHO CAN APPLY?
- Candidates who have completed an undergraduate degree or currently studying in the final year of undergraduate programme are eligible to apply for JAM 2026 examination.
- Foreign Nationals with Indian degree are eligible to apply, subject to the policy of the Admitting Institute.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
- Candidates who qualify in JAM 2026 will be eligible to apply for admission to the Academic programmes of the Admitting Institutes subject to satisfying the Eligibility Requirements (ERS) and Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQS).
- Details on ERS and MEQS are available on JAM 2026 website.
- Admission shall be given as per merit, reservation policy of Government of India, and the availability of seats.

- Qualifying in JAM 2026 does not guarantee admission to postgraduate programmes or any scholarship/financial assistance.
- JAM 2026 Score is also likely to be used by IISc Bengaluru, IISERs, IIPE, JNCASR, and CFTIs such as NITs, IIEST Shibpur, SLIET, DIAT through CCMN.

Examination Cities (Tentative)
Note: JAM 2026 Committee may add or drop an examination city or town due to operational constraints – a notification will be made on the JAM 2026 website.
Choice of Examination Cities:
JAM 2026 Examination will be conducted in eight zones. The names of these eight zones with the list of zone-wise Examination Cities are given above. Candidates must specify their first, second and third choices of cities at the time of applying for JAM 2026. When the choice of first city is made, then the zone gets determined and the candidates will be able to choose the second and third choice cities from the same zone only.
Application Procedure for Examination and Admission:
Candidates can apply for JAM 2026 only through JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) available from September 5, 2025 to October 12, 2025 . Candidates have to first register on JOAPS website, by providing their name, a valid e-mail address, an active mobile number and setting a password. Upon successful registration, candidate’s Enrolment ID and OTP will be sent to the e-mail address and mobile number provided by the candidate. The candidate needs to use this Enrolment ID or e-mail address along with the password for submitting the application. Candidates are advised to keep the Enrolment ID and the password safe and confidential.
JOAPS portal provides an online interface to the candidate for interacting with the JAM 2026 Administration. With this interface, a candidate can:
- Apply for the examination online.
- Upload photograph, signature, and other documents like certificate (for OBC-NCL / EWS / SC / ST / PwD) and proof of DOB.
- Pay the application fee through any of the electronic payment modes.
- Check the status of the application form such as Received, Under scrutiny, Accepted, Defect status, Status after rectification, Rejected with valid reasons, and Admit card ready for download.
Note:
- Candidates must give an e-mail address that they use frequently, as all communication to the candidate for JAM 2026 will be sent to this e-mail address.
- The candidate must not use somebody else’s e-mail address and only one candidate can be registered with one E-mail address.
- Similarly, candidates should provide their personal mobile number and are advised to use the same number until the admission is completed because most of the communication may also be sent via SMS.
- A candidate should submit only one application form even if the candidate wants to appear for two Test Papers. Multiple applications submitted by a candidate are liable for rejection. Hence, DO NOT submit multiple application forms.
- Applicants are requested to periodically check the website for the status of the application or/and information. They should also check the messages sent to their registered email id and mobile number.
- Candidates are strongly advised to fill the application form on their own. If someone else is filling the application on behalf of the candidate, the candidate must ensure that the data submitted are correct
- Verification of Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) and Eligibility Requirements (ERs) for admission is the prerogative of the Admitting Institutes only and the Organizing Institute will not respond to any queries in this regard.
- The offer of admission to a candidate will be provisional, subject to the fulfillment of all the requirements by the dates specified.
- Candidates should note that being in the Merit List of any test paper neither guarantees nor provides any automatic entitlement for admission. Admissions shall be made in the order of merit and depending on the availability of seats at the Admitting Institute.
Application Fees for Examination
The details of the application fee are given below. The application fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.

Candidates who have wrongly entered the Category or Gender will be allowed to change with applicable fee and if candidates decide to appear in other Test Paper or to change Test Paper(s), they can ADD THE ADDITIONAL TEST PAPER or can CHANGE THE TEST PAPER(S) in the earlier submitted application available with an additional fee as shown in above table before November 10, 2025.

Please make sure that E-Com is enabled on your Credit card / Debit card for making online payment.
For making online payment of Application fee, login at the JAM 2026 application portal and follow the payment instructions after verifying the filled application form. From the JAM 2026 application portal, the candidate will be redirected to the payment gateway webpage, which provides the payment options. After successful completion of the payment, the system will be directed back to the JAM 2026 application portal, where the candidate can download the completed application form containing the payment details. JAM does not charge any processing fee or service charge from the candidates for online payment. However, the candidates have to pay the other charges, as applicable for online payment, to the payment gateway or merchant banks.
Refund Policy:
The application fee is NEITHER refundable NOR transferable. Once submitted, there is no way that a candidate can cancel his/her application. In case, the fee amount has been debited (deducted) from your bank account, but JAM 2026 application portal does not receive the information due to communication failure or any such event, then the money will be automatically credited back to your account from which the money was deducted. However, this may take a week or more, after the closure of the application process.
