About the job
We are seeking a dedicated Scientist/Engineer specializing in downstream processing and purification of biomolecules, including proteins, antibodies, and nucleic acids. The successful candidate will develop, optimize, and scale-up purification processes to ensure high product yield and quality while adhering to regulatory standards. This role involves hands-on work with chromatography systems, filtration techniques, and process analytical tools.
Key Responsibilities for Downstream Processing Scientist Job
Purification Process Development
-
Design and optimize purification workflows for biomolecules

Employ chromatography (IEX, SEC, affinity, HIC), UF/DF, and precipitation
-
Implement scalable and reproducible purification processes
Chromatography Operations
- Operate and troubleshoot systems like AKTA and TFF systems
- Develop and refine chromatography methods as Scientist
Filtration and Concentration
-
Perform tangential flow filtration (TFF), ultrafiltration, and diafiltration
-
Optimize filtration parameters for better recovery and throughput
Scale-Up and Tech Transfer
-
Adapt lab-scale processes for pilot/manufacturing scales
-
Collaborate with manufacturing for smooth technology transfer
Analytical and Process Monitoring

Use SDS-PAGE, HPLC, ELISA, spectrophotometry for in-process control

Implement Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) to ensure quality
Documentation and Compliance

Maintain detailed experimental records

Prepare SOPs, batch records, and regulatory documentation as per GMP/GLP
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Coordinate with upstream, QA, and regulatory teams

Mentor junior team members in downstream techniques
Innovation & Continuous Improvement

Stay updated on new purification technologies as Scientist

Propose and implement innovative strategies to boost process efficiency
Required Qualifications and Skills
Education:
-
Master’s or Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
Experience:

3–5 years in downstream processing in biotech or biopharma as Scientist

Practical experience in chromatography and filtration systems
Technical Skills:

Expertise in protein/antibody/nucleic acid purification

Familiarity with ICH, FDA, EMA guidelines as Scientist

Proficient in biomolecule characterization techniques
Soft Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset

Effective communicator and documentation expert as Scientist

Team-oriented with multitasking ability
Preferred Skills

Experience with monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), recombinant proteins, or nucleic acids for Scientist
