The Tata Medical Center (TMC) is a multispecialty institution for tertiary cancer care based in New Town, Kolkata. Tata Translational Cancer Research Centre (TTCRC), the research arm of TMC, is within a dedicated academic building. At TTCRC, a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, scientists and industry professionals collaborate to develop a systems medicine approach in cancer research. This approach is focussed on developing innovative, indigenous, cost-effective and equitable strategies to improve cancer diagnosis; develop treatments that match disease characteristics and are adapted to treatment response; and, identify prognostic and predictive disease biomarkers. These strategies are multi-dimensional and involve an iterative pathway that include clinical studies, high-throughput laboratory investigations, computational strategies to integrate, analyse and model data, hypothesis-based pre-clinical studies and evidence-based translation of findings to clinical practice. The Position
In this temporary project position supported by ICMR fund, the candidate will work as part of the SOLi3D (Solid tumour Organoid Laboratory for investigating Disease biology, Drug response testing and Drug discovery) group at TTCRC.
The candidate’s primary responsibility will be to continue, optimise and extend ongoing work on developing, establishing, maintaining and characterizing tumour organoid cultures from patient tissue samples. The techniques will include but not limited to clinical sample processing, organoid culture, microscopic imaging, extractions of biomolecules (DNA, RNA, Protein) and quality checks, sample preparation for histological analysis, NGS and protein mass spectrometry, drug response testing and other cell biology assays as needed. This will involve working closely with the team colleagues, hospital’s multidisciplinary clinical teams, the biorepository unit and other colleagues from different groups at TTCRC. The candidate will need to plan and perform hands on experiments, record and analyse data, participate and present data/papers in regular group meetings, national conferences and prepare scientific reports. The position will be managed by SOLi3D team lead and project PI.

Tenure:
It is a temporary position. Initial duration of appointment will be for 6 months. Further extension is subject to satisfactory performance of the candidate and successful renewal of the project. Maximum possible tenure of the position will be till the completion of the project in February, 2028. No further extension or regularisation of the position will be possible beyond the completion of the project.
Essential qualifications/experience
(a) MSc/MTech in any stream of Biological Sciences, including Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Pharmacology
(b) Strong experience in mammalian cell culture techniques
Additional desired experience
(a) Experience in 3D (spheroid/organoid) culture model development
(b) Experience in drug response screening assay
(c) Experience with patient sample handling and biobanking
(d) Familiarity with DNA, RNA and protein extraction techniques, quality check, qRT-PCR, Western Blot and high content confocal microscopy
(e) Familiarity with good laboratory practice for basic research laboratory protocols, procedures and techniques
(f) Scientific figure preparation, report writing and presentation skills
